Jack backdated his British P-51A from Trumpeter’s 1/32 scale RAF Mustang III (P-51B/C). He writes: “The conversion to a P-51A/RAF Mk.IA Mustang is relatively simple and straightforward: modification of the lower nose/cowling, and addition of a duct in the top of the nose, which is made from sheet styrene and putty. Next is the removal and modification of the belly duct, which has been modified and replaced to match photos. Gun ports on the wing’s leading edge are filled and sanded smooth before notches are cut for the four distinctive .50-caliber machine gun barrels, which are styrene tubing with the kit’s barrels inserted in the ends. The four-bladed prop must be modified to three blades, which involves sanding away all four prop boots.” From there, Jack made an aftermarket sweep for cockpit and landing gear details. He finished with Tamiya spray cans and weathered with pastels.
