Airfix Lightning – May 2018

André Giauffer

Bourail, New Caledonia

The English Electric Lightning could climb to 36,000 feet in less than three minutes — and looked really cool doing it, too. André built Airfix’s 1/72 scale kit and added ejection-seat handles made from copper wire, seat belts from Eduard, and a pitot tube made from a hypodermic needle. Humbrol enamels account for the blue shoulders and green nose; Testors Model Master Metalizer takes care of most of the rest. The navigation lights are painted with Tamiya clear acrylics.
