Well--I have the turret enclosure done. I just need to make the weaponry.

That shouldn't take too long. I think by the weekend I should have pictures.

 The Same Applesauce company has another one shaped like a flattened propellor. That one if bent carefully would do a good steampunk prop.

Hey!

       Did you see my post about Airplane Cowls? Would the cowl shaped Container Top work for you?

 

TB--if you mentioned it, I totally missed it. You know what is funny though. Early on I had found an Avenger cowl in my parts box. It is oval shaped and too large-- but I thought that an engine cowl might work really well with the rivet detail and panel lines. The problem is my junk parts box is very limited and so that option went out the window. I was not about to order a plane kit just for the cowl, and then it would be hit or miss in terms of size and shape. But--your idea is a good one. The right one would have worked very well!

Actually we moved there when I was still in high school, when my dad worked for an engineering firm in Christiansburg. But I did end up going to VT...class of '78...and stayed around for a while thereafter.

Nice people, and a beautiful area of the country. I still miss it.

I started the turret housing. Like the tubing, I searched around for something in the dimensions I would like that I can modify. No luck. I am sure if I looked long enough I would find something, but time is a premium for me. So, I am scratchbuilding it from styrene. I wasn't sure how it would turn out but I think I have a chance it will work

 

 

Bottle caps offer endless opportunities.  "Blanking" caps (often polyvinyl) are another cool source.

Oh, and two words:  Lug nuts.  Your local AutoZone is chock full of cool stuff (often inexpensive) wanting a new purpose.

I always figured something like this Class J locomotive with maybe more brass. Interesting point about dark grey instead of black though GregBale.

( its 104 here today. And I'm in a truck with no air conditioning. Went through 20 pounds of ice yesterday..... can I borrow your " heat dissapaiting stack" ? )

Things we know as fact...

Whatever the main propulsion / fuel system is , you gotta dissipate the heat. So we know there's heat coming out the top of that stack. Some discoloration is to be expected.

   I got it! It's the Galley stack! That's why I get that Chocolate Cake smell. Sorry that was my Landlady baking a cake. It's an idea though.

 

Lol. Well, that's one vision you can apply to it. Maybe I should add a griddle to the power plant. It could double as a stovetop. Maybe hang a sign on one of the glass panes,  Bullion Express Cakes and Griddle. With a side note... we accept gold, NO CHECKS.

Hey Greg, TB, Gam, and Capn. Thanks a bunch for your input on the stack. It is an interesting read and it brings light to the subject for anyone following along. Cool stuff! Seriously, I thank you. 

I am leaning towards the darker bronze, somewhat weathered, and no soot because afterall, my power plant is nuclear/electric.  The stack serves a purpose but it's left to the imagination. In my mind, I see it more as a means to vent radiant heat from the reactor. The viewer can imagine what they will.
