Eagle, Airfix do a 1/72 Valiant, and it's a recent kit so it will be good. I've got one in the stash myself.

Bish - There is no way I am going to do a Valiant :)

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

I got started with the construction last night, got some of the flight deck assembled. I don't want to go too far before I get my pilot figures. ...I'm not going supernuts with detail, as it will not be seeen.  Just a bit of paint and some dry brushing....pics coming soon....

Hello from the west bank of the "Pond"..

American by birth, but family came from Nottingham in the 1860's.

I would like to join in the GB, with a 1:48 scle, Hobby Boss Boulton-Paul Defiant.  I know Airfix does an outstanding kit of the aircraft as well, but I wanted to see how this one stacks up.  I have seen Airfix's offering built up, and it is a beautiful kit.

Anyway, I'd like to contribute, and help celebrate the anniversary, of one of the most truly storied military organizations to ever take wing.

Best Regards

Frederick J Seitz III

Hey Justin,  thanks for the link!  You know, I might just get a bottle of that and do a comparison.  Besides, can't have too many paints!  Whistling.  That, and with the scarcity of this color, might be a good idea to have a small stash of it.

Thanks again!

Hi Bobby, glad to be of help.

It is odd though that SprueBrothers carries the LifeColor brand, but not that particular shade.

I know!  Every place I checked (except Scale Hobbyist!  LOL!) either would not ship an enamel, didn't have the color I wanted, or were out of stock!  This must be the color for 2017!  LOL!

Thanks again!

Great work everyone!  Some really nice kits being done for the GB!  This is turning out to be a super GB!

With that being said, I have some update pics!  And I have started the 1/72 Buccaneer to go along with the Victor K2!  It's an 1989 boxing from Airfix.  NO cockpit detail at all, but it will be hanging with the Victor being refueled by her.  So the cockpit is not a big deal for me.  The fit for the Bucc is much better then the Victor!  The Victor is.....rough to say the least.  And what's funny is that the right side of the kit is terrible with the fitting.  The left side is much better.  I've never run into that before! Huh?

The major obsticles I'm having (other then the fit of the Victor), is getting the right colors for the Buccaneer!  Good Night!  Bish has been an awesome mate and has been helping me with it (and really helped out with the Victor colors..THANK YOU BISH!), but now I'm running into not being able to GET any of the paint!  Hannants won't ship enamals over here and SB has the desert pink in Humbrol, but it is out of stock!  Angry If anyone here in the states can give any advice on where they may have gotten these colors before, it sure would be appreciated.  I have the decals for the Victor coming in, and can get the decals for the Bucc from the same place.  The paint is the bugger.  I have the Vallejo Hemp and MM Flat Gull Grey for the Victor coming from SB.  So I have what I need for the Victor, but the Bucc is giving me a fit.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Like I said, I can get the decals from the same place I got the decals for the Victor, but the paint.  Wow! Didn't think it would be this hard to get paint.  LOL! Stick out tongue

So here are some pics for you!  Thanks for looking!

Alright, I'm game.  I just got a 1/48 scale Spitfire from Tamiya, gonna mate it up with some various pieces of airfield equipment/ground crew for a Battle of Britain diorama.  May end up throwing in a Hurricane as well (just ordered it but haven't received it yet, so I'll have to see if it's up to snuff first).  Tally ho!

Hello All,

I've been occupied with some other stuff that has prevented me from building and posting for around the last two weeks - so I wasn't at the starting line for this GB with you.  I just started to cut parts from the Hurri's sprues this morning.

Progress so far - not much - but she is started !

Nice start there Steve! I'll be watching the Spit build close since I have the same kit. I did a dry fit of it a while back and it all looked pretty good except for a rather large gap at the wing root. Just something to watch out forBig Smile

Bish,

Put me down for a Canadair Sabre F.4. Kit will be the Fujimi F-86 in 1/72 with Airfix's decals. I had planned for this to be an all Airfix affair, but the canopy is missing from the Airfix kit and the canopy from the Fujimi doesn't fit the Airfix. Markings will be a shark mouthed aircraft from No. 112 Sqn. RAF Germany, that participated in Operation Carte Blanche, June 1955.

Nice one, filled in a nice gap in the post war era, will be looking forward to that.

Bish, I had been just about to start on my Airfix Chippy, but I've just read that a brand new release by AZModels is imminent. I'm going to put this build on ice for a little while and see if  I can get one. I've already built 6 Airfix Chippies in recent years, and I know it's from 1969 and pretty basic. I can't see myself building anothe if a new release kit is available.

Cheers

Tony

Tony, i don't blame you. I just looked on Hannants and they have 4 due out. Seems to be a habit with them producing lots of versions and marking options. I have been thinking about some of their 109's for a while. Hopefully it won't be to long, i will be keen to see how that builds.

Time for me to jump in. This is the first Xtrakit i've done and typical limited run. The only AM will be some resin wheels and some PE from the spares box. There is PE stuff for the Airfix kit, but i felt there was enough in this not to try and force the Eduard set to fit. I am doing an aircraf based at RAF Marham in 2006 in a retirement scheme for the end of the Canberra's service in the RAF.

The kit.

And the real thing.

So to star, get the pilots and navigators positions together. Not many parts, the seats are resin and rather nice.

After a coat of primer and a coat of Humbrol matt black, i painted in some switches and dials and painted up the seats.

I limited the weathering to some Tamiya silver weathering powder for chipping and then fitted everything in and got the fuselage closed up. It was a bit awkward and was done in several stages useing clamps to hold it together. No location tabs of course, so had to try and line it up as carefully as i could.

You can see here that one side of the fuselage is thicker than the otehr, so i'll use a needle file to sand that down.

Got a bit of sanding to do along the seam, but doesn't look to bad. The wheels bays were painted silver when i did the pit so once the sanding is done i can go straight into getting the wings on.

Thats it for now.

Some nice progress there Steve, that Zero is coming on quickly. I don't envy you sanding that wing root though.

Your right about the green pit, i always strugle getting decent photo's. But its looking good.

To continue with the subject which shall not be named and the subject that doesn't seem to fit, I painted the base coat on the first and am moving along swiftly on the second.

Wow, that looks grey but it's not. I used MM RAF Interior Green. Poor camera setup. I plan on doing quite a bit of scratch detailing in the pit....especially since this old kit dosn't have a high parts count.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
