On worldwar1modelaircraft I'd look through a couple of Des' scratch build logs. About everything is covered there. I'd think that any of the video builds would show control wires closely. Des also has a log on the Academy/Italeri Camel. There's also Bob's Buckles site (he sells homemade buckles and brass tubing) and has some how tos. There are some very detailed WWI rigging or build reviews on YouTube. WingNut Wings website is a source of its own. The instructions are available to view for all models in print - including one Camel. WNW recommends that people new to bipes skip buckles and drill small holes to glue the line into. Most of their control surface rigging points are built into the model - the hidden ones you just glue into a hole you make. WNW has pretty complete rigging diagrams. If you want to emulate the buckle effect without the buckle you could thread on small bits of brass rod or very thin plastic tubing made for fly tying. That said, I think bipe fanatics use buckles - a Polish company called Gaspatch makes white metal buckles/tubing in one piece - very neat but not cheap. But with those you can get a sample of several kinds of buckles - they varied from plane to plane. According to WNW, the Camel didn't use them.

I'm sure that the forum has builds of a lot of 1/48s - they're really cheap. An Eduard "Weekender" will go for $20 or so. I've never built a Roden kit, although I have the WWI version of the Rolls armored car, but they're pricey too. Italieri has reboxed a 1/32 Nieuport 17 which Des likes - about $20. I also have a WNW and it's a lovely kit. But for reasons not known on earth, most  of their offerings are out of print and maybe available on eBay for $300 or so. (Could have made more on speculating on WNW than on the stock market.) Anyway Des' forum is pretty big - I'd guess WNW kits are in the minority.

Thanks Nick, I'm pretty much just grousing though. 

 The base coat I used did dry with a slightly pebbly finish but I put down a couple of coats of gloss to compensate. All the decals seemed to go down normally, and most of them snuggled down and stuck to the finish like they're supposed to. But a few didn't.

I've been using Super/Micro Set and Sol for over twenty years and about 99% of the time they work perfectly. But 1% of my decals just won't settle down and stick correctly. I don't know it the solution, decals, or just bad luck on my part. 

In any case guess I'm just whining since the Future seems to have took care of the problem. I just need to remember to carefully check each model for silvering before i move on to the panel line wash stage.

Gamera thank you my friend . it seems to me with either a future or acrylic gloss coat the decals stick to much I noticed this with the M4 with future and the gloster with tamiya. now does the decal wrinkel up before or after setting solution?

Well, I found yet another decal with heavy silvering, the fourth one so far. Looks like I didn't notice the silvering against the grey paint on the fighter. So I wiped away the wash I was laying down and gave the decal a sopping coat of Future. So far the Future has seeped down under the decals and done a great job of getting rid of the silvering. But I shouldn't have to do this, Aero Master is supposed to be a good brand of decals and I sopped on plenty of Super Sol and Set when I first put them on. I'm wondering if I should be using a stronger decal setting solution. Hopefully Bish I'll still be done by the end of the month, after defaulting on two of your group builds I'm determined to finish this one on time...

Nick, very nice work on that jet. 

Colours look great, and I think careful attention to 'in scale' fading of the camou edges also help differentiate the two paints on the top surfaces.

Eric, thanks - and yes have that WW1 site bookmarked and had also signed up to the forum to search specific topics.   I couldn't find a thread concerning the coversion of the Clerget to Bentley engine.  Mind you, that place is dedicated to 1/32 and Wingnut has a Bentley boxed in one of it's multiple releases of the Camel.

One thing I wish existed (or just haven't found it yet) is an outline where to use particular attachment points for the rigging.  I'm certain that turnbuckles - used to adjust wire tension - is not present on control wires, but I could be wrong, or simply depends on the aircraft type?

Working on panel line washes now, sorry no photos- kinda boring so I haven't taken any. 

Here are my latest meteor pics did light pin wash and sprayed over with tamiya flat clear.

JG: looks like you might have that eye for detail needed for a modeler of bipes or ships. I think I mentioned this before but the site World War I Aircraft has ads for extraordinary bipe gadgets, plus tutorials on basic scratch building. The site's guru Des Delatorre has full build logs on all of his jaw-dropping scratch built planes - wish I'd come to this hobby when I was younger. The forum is also extremely helpful. Address: www.ww1aircraftmodels.com (I use Apoxie Sculpt two part acrylic putties for lots of things - they're cheap and mine have lasted years. I think it's a little like Miliput.)
