Ok, gentlemen I just took the time to go through the entire MM IV thread. The quality of work here is outstanding. Considering that a lot these are from molds that are 40 or more years in age. I know that a lot of people do not like these because they are not a shake the box and they fall together. I like them because they look right when they are done and with a little work they are as good as most of the other ones on the market for a heck of a lot more money. Keep up the great work all of youse guys! Thanks for letting me participate.

I have a 20mm ammo box ful of .40 cal. brass. I figured I could sacrifice a few rounds.

Hello all! I don't know the exact date that I was supposed to finish but I'm a really slow builder. Any chance of an extention? Not sure what my last post was but I am on my second round of seam fixing - the bird is together and most of the other parts are primed. If not I understand.

 

Lodni, the six month timeframe is done on the honor system. I do not keep track of exact start dates, and do not have the free time to go back and determine that. But slow building in and of itself is not cause for an extension for this GB, as since the original. To keep that tradition alive I will not deviate on that. If there are medical or or other life issues to cause the delay, we can talk by pm.

MK, that is a super job on your PB4Y! The Atlantic ASW scheme is very attractive. And I do like your depth bombs! Super work on those conversions. I take it that you don’t reload your .40 brass?

That PB is really well done. 

Since I am down to the last couple of days I thought I should post the finished product. Here is my B-24 as a PB4Y-1. The markings are imaginary. I could not find any in 1/48th that were of an actual PB4Y-1. So I used my spare declas and came as close as I could.

I always liked the gray over white camo.

The tractor is from the kit and the trailer is from the B-17 kit. The depth charges are modified 500 lb bombs. The ring is a .40 caliber casing cut down and slid over the bomb fins.

First kit is done, the Monogram Do335 night fighter.  Now to get started on that F/A-18...

Some progress this weekend-

Cheated and used pre-cut mask-and after review, they are a different pattern than the decals call out-I'm going to go with what I've got at this point

I managed to get all the decals on.  They are a mix of decals from the kit and the spare decal stash.  I figure since the night fighter version never went into production I could put whatever markings on it.

Finally getting started on the two builds I signed up for-I'm just glad that the Weekend Madness GB came along or I'd be swimming with the little fishes....

Anyway, I've fought with the AMT Fiat-just couldn't get the paint to be what I wanted-finally decided to go the route of 'old barn find that is being restored...'or something like that:

Going to step away for a bit on this one-need to finish the next one up for the RAF GB-the AMTech P-40E.

This kit is a bit more challenging than the last AMTech P-40e I built-the tail plug is a better match but the plastic is very soft & the detail just doesn't seem as sharp.  This kit came from a eBay seller-3 kits in plastic, no box 'at an offer I couldn't refuse'.  I've always wondered if he didn't have the tools and was making kits himself....ok, enough whining.

Need to pickup some paint but I hope to have most of the painting done by the weekend.

Well I was pretty happy with the pace I was keeping and then I started my chemo treatments.  It really takes it out of you .  But it is what it is.  I finally finished the paint, even though I had to go back and fix it a couple of times.  Nothing to fancy, just mottles of RLM 75 over RLM 76.

I am just putting my hand up, not for full membership, but an honorable mention.

Just realised that I have built a Revell and a Monogram in six months in other GBs, so putting them up here to try and get some reflected glory:

The Monogram AH-1S 1/48 kit was converted to the USFS Firewatch version, using digitally printed decals from Draw Decal; started October 29 for the Modern GB

And for the Weekend Madness, did the Revell 1/48 Spirit of St Louis in November;

So as I didn't flag them to start with, not a full member, but just to show them off...

After not posting for a long time I thought I should get something to show progress on the B-24. Started with the engines nothing fancy just paint a little dry brushing. Then on to the wings. I decided to bore out the exhaust and add a small round piece of plastic to simulate the waste gate. After that I started on the fuselage. My reference showed zinc chromate yellow in the rear of the plane and dark bronze green in the cockpit area. So that is how I painted that. A sludge wash to show some use. I detailed the waist gunner positon again based on my references. Used a zip tie sanded down, bent to shape, painted and coming from the ammo box. I realize that it is not the best picture but, if you look close you can see it. I figure that is enough for now I add more shortly. Thanks for looking.

There's about four 3"or 4" wheel weights worth of lead packed into it.  It's barely balanced!

Nice builds Colin!  How much weight did you have to add to the Liberator?

Sorry for the lateness and lack of updates, but without Photobucket I couldn't post anything anyway.  I did complete these builds in the allotted time, but am only now able to post pictures.  I built "Patches" with my oldest, and it's hanging in his room.  There is enough lead behind the wheel well and at the front of the bomb bay to hold the nose down, though!

So many good builds in here. I've been tempted to throw my hat in the ring, but I know I wouldn't complete them in time.

 

Youre more than welcome to join us if you decide to jump in. Two builds in six months is not overly difficult if you keep it simple and smart.
