I like the sponge idea. I applied some putty last night and will work on the seams tonight. I'm encited to see how the painting is going to work out.

For that 1/144 mottle, another idea might be weathering powders applied with the tip of a fine brush.  It will require some mixing to come up with Luftwaffe shades.   Actually am surprised the market hasn't come up with such colours with the amount of choices out there.

So many great ideas. I'll have to try them all on a scrap piece and see how they work.

I've used a paper template with very small shapes cut out then pressed up against (but not as close as like tape or post-it notes) the fuselage, then use your AB to shoot the correct color at it.   You still get a faint feathered edge which I think is better than the sharp or blotchy egde you would get with a sponge or brush.  imho

I sand the entire seam usually with 600 or higher grit, brush on a primer to check for evidence of a seam and wipe the primer off with denatured alcohol to remove the brush strokes if needed.

This is when Tenax or Plast I Weld are supreme. I use the Touch N Flow applicator to apply these glues and squeeze the join together crating a small ridge created by the melted plastic that oozes out. I clamp the fuselage and let it dry a few hours. I then sand the entire seam with different grits until the join line is gone. Using this method, I rarely use any filler or putty.

I've seen some nice mottling done with weathering powders too!  I don't know where I saw it, but I recall seeing an article by a gentleman who created a three tone camouflage of a 1/72 SM.82 with weathering powders. Looked amazing.

I did a very quick search of my stash yesterday, as I thought I had an Airfix 1/72 109E

It didnt turn up, but I was surprised at what I found, all 1/72

Tamiya 109E-4/7 trop

Academy 109E

Revell 109G-10

Hasegawa 190D-9

2 * Tamiya 190A-3

I've already committed to the first one, but I'll be tempted to keep going, at least with the 109s. I'll let you know if I'm going to enter any more. 

Given that the name of the GB is 'Pride of the Luftwaffe', am I right in guessing that aircraft operated by other Axis powers are not allowed ?

Tony, other countries markings are ok. The GB is just spot lighting these two important aircraft. I'm not as concerned about the markings as long as it's a 109 or 190!

I did think about the drybrush idea but not oils, I should try that.

Here is the little guy so far. I had to use a weak clothespin so I didn’t crush it. There are some seam gaps but it's so small just a dab of Mr. Dissolved Putty should take care of it.

I started my.n 3 days ago lol..hasga fw-190-D9 . I plan on using tamiya paints. I.ll have to custom mix every RLM color. Now to figure out flicker.

Ohhh!! I definently want in- I'll have to get back to you on what I'll be building, though- time to hit the LHS!

(Side note, would a 109 in foreign colors be acceptable, or are you keeping it Luftwaffe all the way?)

It would be great to see you build it as a wreck.

The kit has 12 parts, if you add the bomb, 16 if you use the stand and plaque. I won't use the bomb but may stick it on the stand to keep the gear from getting broken off.

WaggishAmerican, I'm ok with foreign markings as long as it's a 109.

Here is where I'm at with my little 190. After this all dries I'll add the gray green to the top and work on the mottling.

Alright, just got back from my LHS! 

If you could, please put me down for a 1/48 Revell Bf 109 G-10, 1/72 Amodel Bf 109 W, and Airfix Bf 109E in Swiss service. 

Nice haul Waggish...look forward to seeing them done.

That is a nice haul indeed.  I particularly like that 109 W!  Looking forward to progress pics.
