Ships of the British Flag GB.

I got the lines done. A few are a bit wonky and the yellow around the elevators isn't great but after I weather it later and its covered with Helicopters and Harriers I think it'll be ok. 

 

Looks good Griffin. Yeah, after you put some items on the lines you won't be able to tell. I can't see anything askew now.

The lines turn out wonderful. I can't imagine trying to mask off those small of lines.

And I have to say, these British aircraft carriers are very interesting. Reminds me more of an American assault ship Like the Tarawa class or Wasp class. Do they carry amphibious landing craft too?

Thanks guys. That's a good observation. I didn't think about that but I agree they were like an American assault ship. They only held approx 8 Harriers and 10 Sea King helicopters. They could all take off more or less vertically so it makes sense that the configuration is similar to an assault ship. No landing craft however. I think there were three of this Invincible class aircraft carriers. Not sure but I think they're all scrapped now. 

The new Queen Elizabeth class carrier is almost as big as the Nimitz class (280m vs 332m) and can carry up to 70 aircraft. That's one big girl.

No, we have amphbious transports docks for that, currently HMS Albion and Bulwark. I believe those carriers were built with the harrier in mind, which of course did not need the long landing space of other aircraft. But even our privious large carriers such as the Ark Royal were not as big as the USN ones. When the Phantom was taken into service the Ark had to be modified to operate such a big plane and the plane had to be modified to operate from such a small deck.

The new carriers are the biggest ships even built for the RN.

You are correct, all 3 of the Invincible class have been scrapped.

I'm making good progress. This kit goes together pretty easy. I'm going to have to fix the stabilizers on the side of the hull. I put them at the wrong angle. The catwalk walkway thingy on the deck side, somebody help me with the terminology, is a bit warped. I'm trying to fix it. I got the sea darts done as well. I plan a light weathering later.

 

Catwalk thingy is the correct terminology LOL.  I'd have to look that up the be sure though.

Thanks guys. I do not know ships very well. It is my weakest military knowledge base, but I like to look at them. They are impressive. I decided to get some PE done. This kit comes with a nice PE fret. It wasn't easy but I managed to do a decent job. I also worked on the island. That's what it's called, right?? Island? LOL

Very nice job on the PE! 1/700 is tough to do and makes your eyes cross but it really dresses it up.

More work on the island. Radar and antennas. Decals on the deck and deck weathering. I removed the radar domes because I tried to hand paint them and they sucked. I'm going to AB them now.

Steve, yes I did. Something happen with the first shipment, so they contacted me, apologized, and got another shipment out.

Same thing here with the coat of arms. I ordered the barrels from them a couple of days later, the coat of arms. I received the barrles but not the coat of arms, so I started a ticket. There was a mix up with the tracking number, so the shipper resent the coat of arms. It arrived the other day......with another set of barrels . Now I have a second
set of 14" Mk VII barrels, used only on the KGV class. Either I buy the KGV to put them on, sell them or give them away to someone who needs them.

It's time to start on the POW. I received everything I ordered, finished all my backlog and ready for a big build.

I wish my backlog was caught up, still working, or re-working the masts and rigging on the Prinz Eugen (Cat got onto the workbench) and started a 1/700 Lexington for the 1943 GB.  Its supposed to be wet and rainy all week, so maybe I can get a little time to work at the bench.

I have the island pretty much done. Light weathering. 05 Decal. I need to add PE handrail and I'll put the antennas and radar on when it's done. I can see myself knocking it off or mangling it if I put it on now.
