Hi,
Sorry its taken me so long to finish this kit up. And technically I guess it isn't really 100% finished because I still want to add some makeshift tracks for the back wheels (like shown below), and maybe even a yellow or orange "bolt" for the main gun, but for now its kind of done.
When I originally messed up my intended "spray paint" idea I tried to come up with something alternate using brushes, but wasn't sure that I was 100% happy with how it looked. As such I set it aside for a little while. Recently though I bought some new paints and washes and tools, so I decided to use this build as a test bed for trying out different techniques. In the end I kind of over did alot on the kit because sometimes I would add a new coat trying something different over an existing try at something else. But in the end I had fun and it gave me a chance to try some different ideas.
Since the model ended up looking both kind of sooty and extremely muddy I decided to make up some sort of back story for it.
So basically this build represents a "Taranis" Mk II Light Interdiction Vehicle of the 7th Independent Lancer Battalion as she looked during the "Battle of the Flaming Swamps" in the Autumn of 1937.
I chose the name "Taranis" becuas eacoording to Wikipedia he was a Celtic God of Lighning, which seemed like a suitable name for a vehicle armed with some sort of "bolt throwing Death Ray".
I call it a Light Interdiction Vehicle since it kind of seems like a fast vehicle that could be used to counter enemy armored thrusts (kind of like some sort of proto-tank destroyer, or something like that). And I chose the setting of a "Flaming Swamp" since it turned out both a bit sooty and very muddy looking, and I figured that maybe firing a "high energy bolt like weapon" in an area with an abundance of "swamp gas" might give you the potential both alot of soot and alot of muck.
I also figure a "Lancer" might sound reasonable for a (motorized) cavalry type unit with vehicles that fire "lance"-like bolts, and I chose 7 in Roman numerals since I had the decals, but only for two number 7's and two number 8's, since I could easily cut off one "I" to make a Roman numeral 8 into a Roman numeral 7.
Anyway, I had fun messing around with the kit and trying different things.
Pat
PS. I just realized that some of the images are a bit fuzzy so I will try and repost better ones tomorrow.
