The 3D printed really look nice. The detail on 3D parts has certainly come a long way from what it was just a few years ago.

 

It really has. I've purchased a number of parts from Micro Master on Shapeways but he has his own website now and I've purchased a load of parts for 1/350 ships. Check it out but beware, it's addictive...

So here goes.

This kit cost about $ 300 ten years ago. Kind of a rare Cabernet on the shelf thing.

As for GB's I get aboard on, I usually join only when there's a kit that fits, as opposed to buying a new one.

Box art. Combrig is a good resin kit company Their catalogue is very extensive and their kits are pretty flawless.

Someone has been living in here since this kit has been out in the barn for the last 8 years. But the castings are intact.

Instructions are intact.

A little PE and bags of resin parts.

Dang Bill that looks cool! One of these days I'll have to try a resin model. I've seen a 1/350 USS Ward on evilBay but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'll be following yourbuild closely.

How are you going to get that warp out of the hull though?! Boil it?

Now i can se your pics Steve. I had the same referance material, i hardly use the kagero bok, i found that pretty useless.

Nice collection of 3D stuff. Wish i had seen those smike generators and torpedo tube rear pieces, they look nice. What are the last 2.

Not sure what was going on with the pics but I'm glad you can see them now Bish.

Anyway, the second to last picture is the fuel hoses that attach behind the Bridge. They replace parts 81 in step 33.

The last picture is of the Targeting Computer parts 51 and 52 in step 21. I'm going to wire it up like you did since that was such a great idea and with the extra detailing on the 3D part, it just screams to me to add on detail.

Whne i post at work it blocks certain images depending on the hosting site.

The Torpedo site, damn, wish i had spotted that. Would deffinetly have replaced what was in the kit. Look forward to seeing how that comes out.

Just wrapped up my 2 aircraft builds tonight and just about to start on the Type VIIc. I will be building U-552 in its early fit.

And for extras, i ahve a couple of sets from eduard. A PE set and resin 88mm deck gun.

A White Ensign set includes some PE parts and a template to correct some of the flood drain holes. And from Schatton-Modellbau a radio antenn and metal barrel for the 2cm Flak.

G-Factor propellers and another Schatton set, metal periscopes.

And finally, a wooden deck from Nautilus Models which includes resin hatches.

I also have some waterline decals and a fabric flag from AMP.

Wow mate, that's going to look awesome.

I look forward to seeing this Bish! I wish I had picked up the White Ensign set and added the access hatches. Maybe I’ll go back and redo this someday...

A bit of actual modeling update. The kit has bulges and such for induction and ejection ports. Some under the waterline and others above. There are two ports on both sides of the hull forward that are completely missing that I plan on creating.

I’ve finished drilling out the kit holes but need to do add the others. To give depth to the ports/holes I added tubing behind them and then painted the interiors Black.

I used Evergreen Tube #225 - 5/32“ (4.0 mm) for the smaller holes and #227 - 7/32“ (5.5mm) for the larger. The tiny holes were drilled but no tubing behind them. In the Kagero book on page 7 and on the drawings, there are two smaller holes just under the waterline forward on both sides. They look like they would use the #225 tubing.

Looks good there Steve. Drilling those holes is the one thing i wish i had done on mine.

I am looking forward to this. I was checking Shapeways last night to see if they had anything and found a UZO sight. The kit does not include it in any form so i have ordered one of those to add to everything else.

Seriously! Revell didn't make a sight for it? I'm glad there are AM creators that think of such things. The Pontos set for the Bismarck is around £175, pricy but contains probably everything missing from the kit.

Steve, I like that tube idea, like installing a pressure hull behind the limber holes on a sub.

Now, i couldn't believe that. I was expecting to buy the AM part to replace the plsatic one, but there is only the mount.

I have the Lion Roat set for my Bismark, and ye, that does leave much out, even has a 350 ships bell.

I have these two hiding in the stash and would like to participate.  

I have a set of Aber turned barrels and periscopes for each as well.

Was the UZO stored when not not on combat patrol? If so It can be displayed as stored. Just a thought.

Ye, i think it was. I acn't imagine leaving that in place when diving. Would have been nice if revell included it as an option as the mount is there. I think it would have been taken inside the boat when not in use. I think i would rather have it in place.

My understanding is that the binoculars themselves would be dismounted from the column for submerging. There's mention in the earlier systems of waterproof setups, but among other things bomb or depth charge attacks would certainly destroy them.

Just seen the post in the other thread of the GB being moved here.  Repeat, I would like to enter the ICM Kronprinz  1/350 scale ship in the group build.  Along with the kit I have two PE sets, one from White Ensign and the other from Gold Metal Model, along with metal barrels from RB models.  There most likely will be the odd and end PE added to enhance detail I believe will need enhancing. 

I should be able to start the build sometime in September once I clear the dry dock of another build.

 Kin it be paper? I got some German stuff , But it's all paper!

This makes it official, I started a base for the Tirpitz, so my build order is a changing! Once I got the old train tunnel mountain out it just called Norwegian Fjord and I got started 

Here's the layout

grabbed some wood at home depot and made a base. Used MDF board to lift the mountain up. I hit the front edge with the oscillating sander and put an angle on it so the water will lap up against the shore at different points.

finished Trondheim Fjord! The center area will have a stream running down the cliff face shortly.

That is a really swell design. I guess depending on the time of year you could add some snow.

Thanks GM , definitely excited about this all of a sudden. I went through my paints and came up with this pallet. 

that fs34079 was what i used to approximate RLM71 On my FW-190

I'm wondering if that's truly a flat white on the bow and stern? Thinking even if it isn't I can use a wash and maybe even a filter to alter it. All thoughts welcome.

 you guys more in the know on German colors, what do you think?
