Larry Wolf Memorial Close Air Support Group Build 2021 Needs YOU!

Thank you!  I finally found more last night, too.  There seemed to be multiple places they attached bombs on to the wings.  This was one, another was aft and outside these pylons when using the fuel pods and another has the two each outboard the engines on the wings.  

I could attach 6 500 lbs bombs, since the P-38H supposedly had the capacity, but I've seen some heated internet "debates" over it's REAL capacity to know that that could start a S-Storm with some folks.  Maybe I'll do it anyway.  Eduard has a really nice set of 6 bombs so why not use them all?

Lewbud, I'd like to enter with a Tamiya 1/72 Aichi M6A1 Seiran. Not on the list, but meets the criteria for the groupbuild. I will defer to your judgement, thanks!

Does not sound like a 'close air support' type of a/c to me , however, I think it meets the  very loose criteria defined for this GB

Based on that, I would say you are good to go...

Still have not decided what to build for this. Has to be simple, low parts count.. Was thinking something in 1/72.. Perhaps an Airfix F-111 if I can find one on the cheap  or an  A-7A/D/E from Airfix, revell or Italeri (not Fujimi, want to try something new)... Then again I would  not mind doing a Huey gunship... or a Heller T-28... or a skyraider... a decisions...

I wanted to avoid redundancy, hence the unusual subject. I have a few others in the stash that definately fit the bill, so if the Sieran does not qualify, no problem!

Liking the look of the Tigercat, how are you going with the Montex masks?

The vengeance has wings on and all panel lines scribed - well all the ones I am going to do.

There are a few details I am skipping on the A-18, like the little hinges on the rudder.  The decals were very fragile and the less handling the better.  Looks cool the way it is, in my book

I used Alclad 101 aluminum rubbed with SNJ aluminum powder for the metal areas, and Alclad white aluminum for the fabric.  The landing gear legs may have more metal in them than resin, they are very fragile, and were also too short.  All's well that ends well.  I wish I has a P-36 in 1/72 to pose with it, the P-39 is the closest I could come age-wise, and of course the Bell YFM-1B Airacuda, like the A-18, another design based on mistaken conceptions and whose time was past before it ever arrived.

Had to read up a bit on the Shrike and then the Airacuda - quite a pair. ANd your issues with the landing gear sounds just like the real thing.

That looks fab - very nicely done.  The Fleet Air Arm scheme is beautiful and the invasion stripes are the icing on the cake!

I don't know if its scary to fly, but being shot at by it....yes, very scary!

I just learned a few minutes ago the Lewbud Larry "Buddy" Wolfe II passed away on Jan 30. 

Mopar Madness (Chad), mostly Chad, and I did some investigation and found this obituary.

The obit does not give a cause and Chad has put up a memoral thread in the Ready Room.

Rest in peace Buddy, you were a good friend of mine and had a very soft and giving heart.

Decals. I wasn't sure if I wanted to try them or not. But I figured I'd try and if they looked bad I would paint them on. They came out pretty good

Update on the A-10 - got the overall painting done, camo scheme of Dark Ghost Gray over Light Ghost Gray:

and, got the weapons load painted:

Started working on the last of the internal details for the fuselage on the Frog.  Got the avionics bays all painted up and mostly finished...just have a couple of equipment panels that need to get painted and installed.  Then its on to making a little styrene box to put behind the holes for the foot steps.  I'm going to fill the box with Milliput, which I'll then carve out to simulate the canvas "bags" that line the insides of the steps.
