Great job everybody. A short update on my F84. Polished the gloss black and shot the Chrome Alclad. Man that thing is like  a mirror and surface prep is a must. I went with the shinier chrome cause it has a lot of masking to come for the very colorful squadron colors  and will be shooting Aquagloss to protect the finish and will probably dial down the shine a notch. Will also be masking panels to get different metallic shades.

Nice work so far castelnuovo. I build the -A boxing last year. The fit is pretty good all around, but there are two areas you should look out for. One is the intake and intake lip assembly. The other is the rudder. It was wrong for the -A so make sure it's correct for the -B. If you need any help on fixes, let me know. I think I got mine sorted out pretty well.

Thanks Castelnuovo.  I took an old soft cotton t shirt and lightly polished the Alclad and actually made a tad shinier. From what videos I have seen the Aquagloss  doesn't kill the metallic effect. Lots of masking to come.

Yes, three different airplanes there.  The P2V Neptune was used to attack trucks on the Ho Chi Min Trail and as a gunshipalthough it was intended as an antisubmarine aircraft, the PV-2 was the Harpoon and it may not qualify as it's main use was anti-submarine.  The PV-1 was antisubmarine and a bomber.  If close Air Support is aiding troops under fire it's hard to see any of these seeing much use, with the Neptune having the best case, I think.

Hey there everyone, 

Just a really quick update tonight. I was able to get some OD sprayed onto my -1G. I still have a few touch-ups to do, but I'm happy with the way it's turning out. I wanted to go for a varied, used, weather-beaten look. I'm playing with a few different paints, and I think I like the direction things are going. 

It's starting to look like a 'nam snake!

Oh, and before I started painting, I used some PE screen and Tamiya tape to represent (Notice I didn't say "replicate?") the intake screens.

I think they look OK under paint.

OK, I think the hard part is behind me. Now I get to start focusing on the little things.

Digging through my stash I found this old Monogram kit of a 1/48 A-4E. 

Looking fantastic "O".

Jarrod and I finally got the flat arylic laid down on the model, pulled the masking, added the little tid-bits, touch-up painted, chipped some of the surface, and added exhaust marks. Other than the painting the nav lights we are calling this DONE. 



He is very proud of the result although I would call it a three footer.....















Thanks LEWBUD for hosting this GB and allowing Jarrod and I to participate, we both had a lot of fun. I'll still be popping in to marvel at everyones progress. If you want to choose a photo for the front page, I recommend one of the first two after Jarrods first photo.

OK all, I think I'm going to ride this wave. My AH-1J is done, and my AH-1G is in the final turn. I think I'd like to stay in the GB and drop a third submission.

Ladies and germs, I'm going to keep this momentum going'! I'm rolling in hot with Revell's 1/48 A-10. 

I know this is not the best fitting kit out there, and I have a little resing to add to it too. Being a Revellogram kit, I know that there will be raised detail lost during this build. I'm OK with that. I'm a 3-foot modeler, so I don't mind if there's a panel line missing here-or-there.

I'm going to make a little more progress on my AH-1G before I really dive into this one, but it'll be lurking in the wings.

One half of the fuselage is ready as are the wings

PE fiddly bits bent, painted, assembled, and attached to the cockpit tub.  I'm trying Gunze Mr. Metal Primer-R for the first time and all I can say is "WOW!", paint actually hangs on to the metal now...even with handling.  The MRP Aqua paint that I used for the small details on the non-PE areas around the rudder pedals also has amazing adhesion.  I normally put a drop of paint into a cup on my aluminum pallette and then use Goof Off to clean the pallette cups afterward.  I found that I had to use more Goof Off and a lot more scrubbing to get the MRP paint cleaned off the aluminum.

I'm impressed, Ben and Jarrod.  I think it has an excellent look and you completed a very complex project in a short time.  Congrats!

Well done Ben and Jarrod.  Looks awesome!  I've always been a fan of the C-119 and it's variants.

If he is in Texas more than likely he's off the grid with that wild weather. We have friends in College Station and her power came back yesterday and just in time as the home temp was down to 58. 

Since it really is my birthday today, I played hookie and decided to spend some time at my bench. Because I am making good progress on my AH-1G, I decided I'd start on my A-10 and share progress on both projects!

First, the A-10. I haven't exactly finalized what markings I want to use, but I know that I want it to be a FSD or very early production airframe. For that reason, I had to make a few mods.

In the office, I had to carve out the ACES seat bottom that was molded to the tub and box in the gaping hole. The seat will be replaced with an ESCAPAC seat. I don't think it's the exact version the early A-10 used, but it's not an ACES seat and therefore a little more accurate.

I also had to remove the chaff dispensers from under the wing and wheel sponsons. 

In hindsight, I probably could have left the fairings and filled in the dispensers instead of removing it all completely. Oh well. I can live with it.

I also had to remove some sensors from the nose and tail.

A few swipes with my sanding sticks made the job easy enough.

When I opened the box, I was surprised to see Sierra Hotel's resin engine inlet/fan and closed deceleron set.

I decided to go ahead and chop up the nacelle assembly in prep for the resin intake lips.

I also sprayed some paint on the engine parts in prep for assembly.

Here's what the new fans and inlets look like dry-fitted together.

Pretty slick, eh? Well, maybe except for the giant thumb.

OK, so how about the Cobra? I've been in contact with a gentleman on another forum that flew Hueys in Vietnam, and he shared some great Cobra pictures. I decided to build mine representing one of the airframes from his photos.

I got the weapons assembled and painted. They just need to touch-up, weathering, and final assembly.

Considering I had never used PE before, I think the M-158 pods turned out alright. Good enough for my 3-footer skills.

I also got some color on the airframe. Some unit markings on the elevators, boom, and "surfboard."

It should be pretty smooth sailing with the Cobra going forward. 

Well, that's where things are at with my two builds. Stay tuned for more, and I promise I'll have less Ernie and more BRRRT! going forward. Well, after today, anyway.

OK folks. I don't know if I'm up to the excellent standards that I have seen so far on this build, but here is my entry. I'm starting tomorrow, but it's a bit of a challenge. Why? 1 because its been years since I have built a wingy thing. 2. I have never built a vacform before. However I am armed with some good references and looking forward to the challenge. And if it fails...... there's always fishing.
