The Eduard Spitfire Mk-II kit has arrived and can hardly wait to get started. The last time I built a Supermarine Spitfire I was a Cub Scout, it was 1955.

Harold, I've been thinking about a Spitfire Mk I or Mk II for over a year now to pose with a BoB Bf 109E. Gotta get with the program and get one done. This group build might be the right time. The last Spitfire I built was when the Monogram Mk IX was a new kit. Too long ago to remember. Anyway, progress on the Mk VIII today. Attached the wing. Need to clean up the leading edge and attach the wing tips. This little Spitfire is building faster that I expected.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Frank, I have two models for the British Army Group Build on my work bench to finish before I can start my Spitfire, but I am watching how you build the Mk-VIII.

Bish, I know how you feel about Spitfire's but the Spitfire badge you found for the Supermarine Group Build is absolutely first class.

Personally, not that much. I work at a prison, so i have not been furloughed. We don't go out that much, used to go for a meal or a movie maybe once a month, so not able to do that. Only used to pop into town every so often, usually to go to the LHS. Main thing is i can't do is go and see my mum. She lives about an hour away and is over 80. And with us working at a prison, i have not been to see her much even when we were not locked down. Not worth the risk. But she has had her 2 jab's now, so thats a relief.

Main impact has been at work. I work in the stores, we have not had as many deliveries as we used to. We also deal with the laundry so have had to take extra precautions when there have been cases.

We have been lucky really.

I can certainly relate to not seeing your Mum. Our kids will not even give us a hug or come in the house to visit for fear they will make us sick.

Thanks Bish. I'm now undecided, a tanker or airliner ? I have British airways and East African airlines decals on order, let's see what I get.

Paints and masks are here:

I've got most of the cockpit done. Not Lawdog quality but good enough considering the tiny cockpit hole:

Hi Cliff, it looks like you are doing a Spitfire too? Do I need spacial paint and masks for my Eduard Spitfire Mk-II? If so is it the same set you have in the picture above?

Harold,

Looks like you already have the masks from looking at the pic in your post. They're in the zip-loc bag. The Eduard Profipack kits usually come with masks and PE.

Harold: I buy the pre-cut canopy masks because I friggin' hate cutting them myself. As Jay said the kit probably already has them.

The paint's up to you. I haven't painted a RAF bird in years so I figured buying some new paint was probably a good idea. They were in the sets so I just went ahead and bought them that way instead of single bottles.

harold, i know the green and brown are correct. Its the underside colour i am not to sure of. I am pretty certain that Sky Type S and Duck Egg blue are the same colour.

The Vallejo RAF set is probably a bit more accurate than MiG - the latter have lightened their paints in order to achieve 'scale effect'.

Even if you are a follower of this notion, the problem is decals are printed as 'pure' colours, that is 1:1 scale.  So the decals and MiG paints combination result in a higher contrast than normal.  This isn't a problem for some that like that sort of look.

Nick: That looks good, nice work!!!

Jack: Well, I hope they're at least reasonably accurate. I'm going to try to pre-shade so it should throw off the light/dark ratio of the paints some.

Hey everyone!  Great work so far.  Loving the builds!  I just finished the Secret Santa GB and was deciding if I should start Bish's Supermarine or Mess. GB first.  LOL!  Decided to go with the Supermarine.  Here is my entry.  Progress pics coming soon.  Going to do the Royal Navy version.  I think I have the right paints for that scheme.  LOL!

And here are the first progress pics.  So far a pretty nice kit.  Fit is not bad, a couple of places needed a little work but nothing major.  Cockpit is not overly detailed...but you can't see much when you get it together.  The panel lines look to be nice and crisp so a dark dirt wash from Flory's will really make the build pop.  Here ya go.  Enjoy!

Very cool Bobby. Built a Hobbycraft SF years and years ago. As I remember the fit was pretty good if the detail was a little sparse. Nice work!!!

Closer to paint. The Mk VIII is just about ready for primer. There's a few detail pieces that need to be prepared like the propeller and landing gear then it's off to the paint bench. Later the temp will be in the mid-70's, a good time to paint.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

I've made a minor start on the Wellesley.  The wheel wells were opened up and boxed in, I plan a little more refinement in that area but this is where it is now.  The wings have been glued together and mounted to their respective fuselage halves, and the cockpit floor has been glued to one side and trapped between the fuselage sides so it will cure in the correct position.  As you may note there are some gap issues to deal with at the lower wing joins.

I have ordered a vacform canopy set to replace the kit parts, partly because they are rather thick and also because they made their way to the floor where I subsequently stepped on them and damaged both pilot and gunner positions.  As we say in R/C flying, gravity sucks.  Progress will be impeded while I wait for the canopy to get here from NZ, and I'm still waiting for the resin Pegasus engine.
