I'll be in with something, don't know what yet.

G'day John, I've got you on the list. When you have decided, let me know what you're building and for who.

Cheers,

Ferg

Excellent work Joe. Really sharp painting. The overspray effect is a dandy touch.

Well folks, It's high time I got back to my Corsair and walk you all through what I got done prior to the shelving episode in 2018. There is quite a bit so I hope you will bear with me and enjoy my progress.

Let's start, of course, with the cockpit. The Yahu PE seat was folded into shape. I removed the kit solid seat mounts and installed the Eduard PE mount to the back of the seat.

Cockpit parts were assembled and painted with MM interior zinc chromate green along with all the Eduard PE.

All assembled. The yahu fabric harnesses were an excellent touch. I weathered with a wash, drybrushing and some pastels.

Painting and detail on the fuselage walls.

All buttoned up and primed with Tamiya white primer.

It was then painted with MM Dark Sea Blue.

Next up was the engine, cowling, and resin cowling flaps. I utilized copper wire to simulate the ignition wires. Very small holes were drilled for each one to mount into. It was painted with MM paints and given a wash and some drybrushing.

Using some steel wire I wired the resin cowling flaps to represent the control cable.

That was subsequently painted and washed and mounted to the engine.

The rockets were wired with copper wire for ignition wires and the landing gear was given copper wire brake lines.

Fiddly bits painted as well as the prop.

Next came the dacals. I opted to use the markings for Cpt.G.H. Wallace of VF-83 on board USS Essex 1945. These came from the Starfighter decal set.

They went on fairly well and laid down nicely with Solvaset.

And that my friends is where I left off. It's now all about the weathering, detail painting and final assembly. As such, there's still a good bit to do to bring this to a satisfactory conclusion.

Thank You all for following along. I know Toshi is.

Cheers, Joe

That's looking good Joe!  I'm jumping into the pool with the 1/72 Tamiya Corsair, but in a different flavor:

I had read that the RNAS clipped 8" off each wingtip to fit in their smaller escort carriers.  So is it just a cut and that's it?  I have read that there are a number of other detail differences like thinner propeller, addititonal fuselage air inlets/outlet, and British style drop tanks, but I'm going to be as ignorant as possible and just get this done.

Joe: That's friggin' amazing! Love the wires on the rockets!

G: Looks cool! I have no idea what the differences were on RNAS Corsairs but I'm interested in seeing how it comes out.

I'll go along with the rest on your detailing.  I can't do that in 1/32, let's alone in 48 or 72.

Well Joe, old mate, all I can say is bloody hell, I'm sending my 1/48th back and will retire injured! That is awsome work mate.

G, I think you are going to need some serious medical assistance if you decide to make this conversion 'accurate'.

Got the base engine started. Holley Double Pumper carburetor from Shapeways test fitted. I've already got the fabricated dual feed line and throttle lever installed onto it. More to come......

Neal: Never remembered that the Corsair was exported to our allies, neat change of schemes with the roundels and camo. After your anime blast at the Nats this build should be.....easyHuh?

Joe: Just had to put the fake quarter in the photo for scale didn't ya LOL. Your powerplant is AMAZING and I only hope I can do my 32nd scale offering justice.

I'm in.  I'd love to dedicate my upcoming 1/48 Tamiya P-38 F/G to these guys, particularly Toshi and Hunter.  That said, I'm not familar with the others, but that doesn't make their presence any less missed by the folks who knew them.  Hunter's death hit me hard, perhaps because he was a first responder like me. He died doing something he loved.  He was a sponge and I definitely miss the barrage personal messages with questions.

Toshi lived a stone throw away from me so we had demographics in common.  His transparency and kindness was a breath of fresh air around here.  We were eventually going to have a cup of coffee but that never happened unfortunately.  He certainly had alot on his plate.

It's been years since I've participated in a group build.  I look forward to seeing everyone's work.

Thanks for the comments you guys.

JOE (aka lawdog) GREAT to have you in here as well brother. Looking forward to seeing that Tamiya Lightning in here.

Well gang here's the finished engine. I used the base engine and replaced the OOB carburetor with a Holley Double Pumper from Shapeways, the cooling fan & throttle pivot levers are from Detail Master, photoetch and resin air cleaner are from Iceman Collections on Ebay and the paper element was replicated by scratchbuilding. Plug wires are from Lex's Scale Modeling, Fuel lines and electrical harness were scratchbuilt. Wiring harness was just braided wire with the insulation stripped off of it. I then applied super glue the length of the harness save for the part where I separated out the wires for individual circuits and painted the length of the harness black to simulate a black taped wire harness. Individual "circuits were then ran to the ignition coil and alternator and fastened to the "studs" on the alternator and coil and scale retaining nuts were then applied to each stud to retain the circuits. Scale nuts were from Detail Master. Fuel line was made from solder and RB Motion supplied the necessary anodized fittings. Flex fan is also from Detail master.

To recap:

And glamour shots of the scale build. This will now be tucked away till I need it later to be installed.

Beautiful work on that engine.

I've started on the Tiger Meet Puma, a 1/144 scale Revell kit.
I'm dedicating this build to Buddy (Lewbud). Buddy always ran the Weekend Madness Group build every holiday season. His wit and humor were infective and enjoyable. When I moved to Dallas for my transplant he reached out to me to meet up. He drove around 20 miles to meet me at a BBQ place that was just down the road for me. He pulled up in a Mini Cooper with a big British flag painted on the roof and go out. He was a big man and watching this guy get out of this tiny car was humorous. We got to know each other over dinner and he told me of his love for cars, P-51's and Tiger Meet markings. Buddy was a great friend and was alway there if you needed him. Buddy Chad (Mopar Madness) and I went to see Midway and a then sometime later a German restaurant. He was single and I don't know if he had family in the area. I don't know the cause of his passing but he is missed.

So here's to ya Buddy Beer

I started on the cockpit and cabin area. I'll give it a black prime base and paint the interior prior to closing it up. The stripes are decals thank goodness.

Man....I never got to meet Buddy but that sounds really cool that you got to get together with him.  He helped me out on my Maverick build on some of the obstacles that I had. Super nice guy. Didn't realize that Chad was from around the Metroplex either.

This PUMA that you're building is TEENY!!! Wow!!!!

Yeah, I got for a dollar at the Eaglequest scratch and dent table, that and a 1/144 787 for $10 in 2018.

Chad lives on the east side of the metroplex, Buddy live in Arlington. I was in Richardson, right in the middle.
