Closing it out for the night. Got these in just in time. I checked them a bunch because I figured dry time would be faster in the sun. 6hrs instead of 8. They did get to thick on the top. Nothing that affects the build tho, just how much resin was used. The resin is still pliable and wants to straighten out so i put some weight on it where the curl is strongest. It's looking good so this build progresses!
cold and rainy the rest of the week. Expect sand on the ocean bottom next weekend or later i guess.

had a really nice afternoon yesterday. The rain went away and the sun peaked out just enough to do this. I'm struggling to find the frogs right now. May have to make them myselves. If you guys have any ideas for 10x15mm length frogs let me know. chris

Unfortunately, I can't be much help with the 1/72 frogs. I only know of 1/35 ones, and those aren't in a leaping posture. Maybe a 3D print?

Well, this GB has been silent for a few days; but have I quit? I think not. I have actually gotten to work on the diorama base. Here's the pics!
So, I got a nice piece of basswood for a decorative base. I also got this pink insulation foam piece from Home Depot. Cutting and scene-imagining done, I eventually did some shaping of the foam before coating it in Sculptamold. Following that, I slathered on some Model Color Leather Brown (+ Model Color Black Grey where the pond is). The next step was working with white/glue und vasser + medium brown ballast from HL + some dark dirt. Voila! The last picture is it's current status....unless of course I beat you to the chase and progress even more before you read this. Lol
And the wire thing? That's the tree I'm working on. A stick/twig thing (possibly from a bush) made me a general framework. Floral wire, clay, more floral wire, and more clay later, and...ta-da! It's starting to look like a tree. Just wish the base trunk were longer and maybe a little thicker....
Anyway, without further ado, the pics:

panted the SR-71 this week... I was planning to weather it BUT dang this is the best satin coat I've ever laid down! Not sure I want to hide any of it. Tough call. Seems to me the scene really calls for a weathered look. Open to thoughts on this.

as a refresher this is the old revelogram. I'm pretty happy with the detail with some paint on it. Bare bones there were swirls showing in the plastic and it had this odd greasy look/feel to it. I wiped it down with mineral spirits and wet sanded it with 1500 grit to try and clean that up. The paint is Citadel Chaos Black.
Pretty sleek, there, Mongoose! I can't really say what to do with weathering....Do whatever you feel most comfortable with perhaps? Better to not to have regrets. :)

My turn to liven it up! Ready tomake some progress again i think. I boughta 3d model of a leaping frog. Uploaded the stl file at work and we made a go at printing it today. taking them off the support is a learning experience. Since we cut the legs off the one on the left we've gotten better at it! the one on the right is full size. The left one is a 75% scale. we have a 50% one that came out good so I'll have multiple sizes to go along the wave into the distance. Next we have to figure out how to duplicate it so that 12 can print at once. We being the tech at work that's learning the new printer haha

Cleaning those up can be a pain. Nice job getting it off the sprue or whatever you call the 3D printed version.
Hey Gamera, I believe the term is supports. I've muddled around with the 3D printing so far and just now actually doing something with what I've read and watched others do. We'll see how this goes. Printed a bunch the other day. One batch has a bunch of fine plastic hairs all over it. Once I figure out how to clean them up I'll be close to done haha
Almost ruined my work so far yesterday. I wanted to encase the sides in something light weight. Hey, I figured, let's try the cardboard trick again but this time with posterboard since I want a red background for the waves...oh baby was it an epic failure. The adhesive I bought reacted with the fiberglass of all things, actually softened it. Then the fiberglass soaked into the posterboard and didn't dry solid. With the corrugated cardboard it has stiffness to it once it dries. The poster board was really flimsy. Even if the adhesive hadn't softened everything I don't think it would have worked because I'd have put a hand through it sooner rather than later :-)
The only picture is the scraps! Took me over an hour to clean it all up.
Back to the standard stuff. I picked up some thin 1/8" birch plywood for cabinetry and nail gunned it all together, with a little gorilla glue in between to hold it together long term Next up some foam in those spaces to fill it up and create some decent size waves. Then some dryer sheet over that and some gesso in reds and pinks.

Much batter results today :-) Ha, you'd think it was opening day given my spelling!
Bondo'd both ends and hit them with primer. Filed the wave gaps with foam and then layed on some dryer sheets. I really like these for shaping waves using the geso.
done for the day now as it's time to relax and start the holiday grilling!

Wow, Mongoose; you've been booking it! It looks great so far! I'm glad that 3D printing is working out and glad you were able to get out of that sticky situation. Is anything more painful in modeling than to see your masterpiece get hurt?!
I really gotta get going on mine again. I kinda shrink from the airbrush, though--gotta figure out how to do that tiny camo scheme on the tank.
John: I use Silly Putty to mask stuff like French camo. And if you don't like how things are going you can always just spray over it again.

The YouTuber I am following for this Creation said wait 2 to 3 hours for the resin to gel off nice and thick so that you can create some very bold waves. Now when I did the standard waves that worked perfect. But I think adding the snow just like the YouTuber did change the whole equation. Ok let’s try again. This time i got an aluminum pie pan so it could be spread out and stirred. Better but i still wasted half of the 16oz pour. One more time. Pay close attention i told myself, you only have 16oz left. Well it worked ok. Boy it set up quick again but i managed to get it all spread out before it turned to a thick gel that couldn’t be formed anymore. Added some snow for foam on the breaking waves and we’re all set. Tomorrow i I’m going to put the gesso on the dryer sheet, paint it up and add the acrylic gel medium. The next set of pics you guys should see should have some frogs in them!

I got a little more work done on the little frog car- sorry not much to show though. I did take an old credit card and cut the surf boards out of it. Just need to add the fins and paint and they'll be done and worth posting.

got a little painting done on the Blackbird. Ooh I'm still happy with this build. Just 2 divots showed up on the top. Now I'm gonna have to decide if i weather it or not. In the meantime these no step walkway lines came out sweet, i.e. the color tone seems to match the satin black perfect. An accomplishment seeing as it's a gloss red in the bottle haha
Working hot and heavy on this one while I'm on vacation so you'll see quite a few updates. Like this one! Really excited about how this is coming out so it's truly in process :-) What can't you find with a google search these days. It seems like there's someone with time to put all kinds of things online. Like a complete picture archive of every tail graphic ever done on an SR-71! Found my favorite, SNOOPY.
