Rareplane's 1/72 Lockheed Vega as 'Winnie Mae' with Drawdecal decals. Vacforms are always fun, so let's see how it goes!

You're a braver man than me Piers with that vac. I've seen some unbeleavable builds come out of vac-u-form kits though.

Piers: Never had the guts to build a vac-form kit and you don't see that many these days. Looking forward to seeing how you do this.

Thanks Gamera! This bird was begging for the biggest load it could get. I'm almost done with paint and decals and should have her wrapped up this weekend.

As for me, I've been kinda lazy about doing anything to the B-26.  What work I'm doing is trying to finish up another project for another GB.  When I get back to the B-26, I'll probably do something entirely different and save the repair for another day.

Markings are from the 1997 Tiger Meet (according to Hasegawa's instruction sheet).

I peeled the masks off and finally got the paint overruns cleaned up. Glossed her last weekend and hopefully I'll get to decals tomorrow!

I know what you mean.  I managed to move one step closer to finishing a project today, but still a long way to go.  Good thing we have till the end of the year!

Cliff, the Lightning looks great, I know about planning a day and nothing happening...

For the Vega, I have cut out the pieces and spent many hours sanding the backing and my fingertips off.

Most of the decaling is done. I came down with a nasty cold Sunday and have been out of sorts all week though. Hopefully pictures soon.

OK gang, in an attempt to stay out of this ridiculous SoCal heat, I've spent some time at my bench plugging away on a couple of projects. One of them is the Hasegawa two-seat F-16 that I started after my Lightning. 

My last post showed the airframe with the cockpit closed up and the wings on. Since then, I was able to get the intake and tail assembled, the nose attached, the seams (mostly) cleaned up, and the main assemblies primed.

There are a couple of rough spots that need some love. I plan on smoothing everything out with some 0000 steel wool. Once that's done, I should be able to start the camo. I'll spray the upper part of the intake and the lower part of the forward fuselage first. That way I can attach the intake and clean up the joint before spraying the rest of the airframe. 

Hopefully there'll be a break in this heat soon so I can go out to the garage and splatter some paint! Until then, feel free to drop your two cents in the bucket. Comments, questions, and criticisms are welcome, as ususal.

FSM, while some paint dried on another project, I focused on a detail on my F-16. I noticed that the stabilators didn't fit in their attachment point. The hole was too big for the nub on the part. So, I found some styrene tube that allowed for the part to fit snugly. Then I enlarged the hole in the fuselage to accept the OD of the tube.

After everything was dry, I trimmed and sanded everything smooth.

Just to show how tight the fit is, here's a shot with the parts dry-fitted in place.

The weather in SoCal is tolerable now, so I hope to start splasing some paint on my Viper soon. Stay tuned!

Looks like a nice clean fit. You'll be much happier with that from my experience. You get so tired of the stabilators drifting.

RATS! 

While I was spraying some camo on my F-16 in prep for the intake's assembly, I dropped the kit. The radome, canopy, and canopy brace popped off. Actually, the canopy didn't come off completely. It mostly broke off at the joint, but the part that stayed on cracked.

Luckily, things broke along their joint lines. I think I can get things back together well enough to hide my fumble. Stay tuned!

Oh my gosh O! That's blows! Thankfully I've dropped very few models. Looking forward to seeing how you deal with this setback. 

I finally got the P-38 decaled. Way too many stencils. I may have missed a few- no matter I'm moving on to the panel lines now...

OK gang, after stepping away from the carnage and giving some thought to a repair plan, I got back at it with the F-16.

Luckily, the parts that busted broke along their joint lines, more or less. After some careful attention, I think I was able to get thing back together relatively cleanly.

A little CA and some careful sanding got the canopy back together. After I was satisfied with my repairs, I focused on attaching the intake assembly. I had to spray the underside of the fuselage and the upperside of the intake prior to installation to make sure I got good coverage on the camo. Things went together well, just a small bit of PPP for the joint. I'll go back and spray some touch-up to cover the fill.

Well, that's where things are at as of now. I'll continue with the painting on both airframes. I'll post some more progress as soon as there's some to share. Hopefully it won't be too long.
