Not a problem.

Also, the IJN carriers did fly off army units. 

I had to order another set of portholes but I only have about 20 left . While I'm waiting for the last set of PE I wanted to replace the last plastic girder piller, or whatever they're called. I forgot to take a picture before cutting it out but I replaced it with a scratchbuilt evergreen girder. I'm going back to working on the rear deck and painting the small boat section aft of the hanger.

This build is massive. You sir....get the modeler of the frickin' YEAR award for tackling this and for all of your efforts thus far Steve.

I'm working on the small boats at the moment. 

Since my time is running short before the Nats, assuming they are going to be held this year, I moved the Akagi back to the front of the line. I received the last of the portholes (still not sure it was worth it), installed them and worked on the small boats, sampans and motor boats for the last several days along with trying to come up with a method to replicate the rolled hammock/futon splinter shields the IJN used at the begnning of the war.

There were some pics I saw of these shields on the AA gun emplacements as well as the directors so I added them, know one knows for sure anymore so I figured the extra detail can't hurt. Maybe I'll get a consederation for effort. I used Milliput to make them up and think the came out OK. Once painted white, they should look decent. I still have the starboard side to do but it doesn't take but and evening or two. In the meantime I can finish spraying the stern area and touch up the cable reels, add the anchor chain and then the small boats. I have an idea to "secure" the boats to the deck like they were with straps and add some oars. It's most unfortuanate that once the deck is on, most of my work will be hidden but if you look close you will see the little jewels, the same with most of this build.

That's all for now, but I wager that things will start moving faster from here. Assuming I get some bench time.

I'm in awe of your abilities every time you put up more of the build.

You really should send in an in-depth build log and pics to FSM for a feature article.  Willing to bet Aaron and Tim will bite on this one

I completed the chalkboard that I wanted to place on the island side. It's probably far more complex than was actuall there and I don't know my success of shrinking it but here it is.

I can't read Kanji and I'm not sure the translation is correct, if I screwed up the order, phrases or all of it, but what I wrote and ran through Google Translator is

"I fear that all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve"

It took some effort to get the picture above and I'm surprized it came out as well as it did. Of course shrunk, nobody will be able to read it.

Oh and yes, the Japanese ship GB is starting on time, Aug 1st through.................

MC, I saw early on that you mentioned both Pearl and Midway strikes in the aircraft on deck.  Was just wondering which way you were going.  By the map, it looks like you are setting up for the Pearl strike.

Only reason is that, IIRC, Yamamoto used that phrase in his report after the results of the Pearl Harbor operation were in.  I think you're right, by the time it's reduced to scale, it's just going to be a series of dots for the most part, so won't make any difference.

You are correct GH, on both counts. Yes the phrase was spoken after the attack, I just put it in as irony. And yes, it's not really going to matter. 

According to some accounts, he also told them he could run wild for six months, and then they better sue for peace to hold what they had at that point.

Pretty insightful considering the way it played out and the fortunes of war tipped, but he studied here, and knew the industrial capability.

I did forget two thing on my immediate list. One I completed last night, installing some paper framing to the small platforms next to the flight deck and competing the boat hoist housing with the same laser cut paper AM. No pics, sorry I forgot before I shut down for the night. The second is adding the Hammock splinter shields to the starboard side. I work on that tonight and might get to the anchor chains.

Amazinly I got quite a bit done last night. I have all the splinter hammocks made and on, both sides, the stern touched up and started to run the anchor chain. Tonight I'll finish the stern anchor chain, set the boats for good, add the ors, "tie" the boats down, paint the cable reels and OMG, can I say it........set the stern deck! I don't think I'll get that far but hey, tomorrow is Friday and I might stay up an extra hour....and regret it fighting to stay awak in my cube.

I promise I'll take pictures tonight.

OK guys, here's a picture update. Last night I finished the stern anchor chain, touched up all the paint and started adding the boats. I also painted the stern deck girders. Tonight, finish installing the boats and set the deck. Once the deck is set I'll need to scratch the cross bracing of the pillars and attach the cranes, ladders and landings.

Nice work on the girders, was it tricky to keep a uniform coverage when airbrushing them?  What type of paint did you use?

Thanks Scott, they weren't difficult at all. I first sprayed the girders with Tamiya acrilic flat black, then Life Color Sasebo Gray, then Kure Grey (which is lighter). The tough part was painting the white identification stripes on the rear pillars.

I do beleive I see some paint there! Your moving quickly now.
