We all worry about Foil and Metallizer paints and how they will work. Right ?
Here's a goofy tip I discovered by accident! Molotow Chrome pens are the "Cats Meow" for touching up, and doing small Chrome Looking areas, right? Well, I broke one by stepping on it ! I was able to salvage, I would say 60% of what was in there. In a nice little glass jar.
I took some with a real soft fine brush and did the Area on the Wing Roots of one of those little Aurora Piper twins. It came out awesome. So! I would say this could be a way to get the cowl rings on Prop and Jet Planes a shinier look.
I am still gonna try those really shiny Alclad paints though! Foil can still be used. Go to the Dollar General store near you. Or any store like that. Buy their house brand of foil. It's actually thinner than the better known brands!. Now some Foil Adhesive from Micro-Set and you're in business. It still takes some work, But, It does work if you are careful. Then Burnish gently a couple of times and Bingo! You have it!
Yeah you want to buy the cheapest, thinnest, crappiest foil in the store. Save the heavy duty Reynolds stuff for BBQ!

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Be careful with aluminum and food.....

Yeah, but I've had a devil of a time trying to burnish that glass bakeware lid onto the wing of my B-25....

Don't tell me you're gonna eat that B-25.
I haven't tried it yet but Molotow is supposed to airbrush well. Just a thought.
Right On, Bill! Oh, You forgot-The Shiniest as well.
Oldermodelguy;
It does!
Wouldn't the stuff from the pen be pretty expensive on a per ounce basis, compared to similar stuff in a bottle?
Don Stauffer in Minnesota
Well, Don;
Nothing truer has ever been said. But I wasn't about to waste it. The bottles are rare around here
Yeah, I don't know about decanting the whole pen and airbrushing it, though I guess if someone thought it was the exact product he needed, he'd use it.
I think more about using it in small amounts, like the YouTuber Marty from Australia. His channel is "Marty's Matchbox Makeovers", and he shows videos of his projects to refurbish old Matchbox cars. He uses a Molotow pen, but decants the ink onto the bottom of a small plastic cup as a palette. Then he applies it with a fine brush.
How do you all say, "Molotow", anyway? I say it like the late Soviet Foreign Commissar's name, "Molotov", because I figure it's Russian. But I hear some say "Moll-oh-toe".

I did precisely the same thing for my '34 Ford police car a while back. Perfect for sirens and the 'gumball' base. Closest thing to real chrome I've used in the modeling world...and delightfully 'non-fussy' (and self-leveling to boot!).
Still haven't tried it in the AB, though.
As an experiment, I decanted the Molotow pen into an empty Tamiya paint bottle. In an effort to get the chrome paint to dry faster I thinned it with hardware store laquer and it sprayed well through the AB. As a bonus I ended up with twice the amount of Molotow. I'm not entirely sure that it dried any faster though but the coverage of the thinned Molotow seemed no different than the original.
I'm finally retired. Now time I got, money I don't.
Hi; This for Baron and anyone else:
Based on my research it is pronounced MOLL-O-TOE or TOW. My friend from St Petersburg assures me modelers in Russia pronounce it that way. I Guess no one there wants to be reminded of Mr. Molotov and his infamous " Cocktails"
Bill !
There's no way My "Q" goes in anything BUT Reynolds! Last thing I want is the Chihuahua and " Teddy Bear" LOL.LOL Yorky" getting that sauce all over their faces and looking up for more!
