“It was a Father’s Day gift from my kids,” Jason says of Revell’s reissue of the Aurora 1/8 scale Creature from the Black Lagoon. “It was my first model after a 20-year break from the hobby. This kit catapulted me back into building.” Jason removed the monster’s fangs — “The original Creature has no exposed teeth,” he says. The rest of the kit was like pulling teeth, too. “Loads of cleanup required, with plenty of sanding and putty.” He painted the 1954 movie star with Testors Model Master Acryls, dry-brushing “at least 10 different custom shades of green to achieve the color.” Tow-part resin gave the base a suitably slimy look.
