“I modeled Accurate Miniatures’ 1/48 scale SBD-4 Dauntless as a gift for my girlfriend’s father,” Phillip says. “It is his favorite airplane.” Phillip scratchbuilt details for the engine, landing-gear bays, and cockpit using brass rod and styrene, but says, “The kit is so highly detailed on its own that nothing else is really needed.” He weathered with black and brown pastels and used silver paint and shades of the main colors for scratches and fading.
