Scratchbuilt Chevy engine – December 2017

John Tanaka

San Gabriel, California

The third time was charmed for John, whose previous two attempts to build a 1/25 scale 1966 Chevy C10 230 engine stalled. He says, “I had to scratchbuild the engine, since the kit only came with a V8 and I needed an in-line six for my project. I looked at more than 300 photos to get it as accurate as possible. The funny thing is that when the model is pieced together you won’t be able to see the intricate detail. But at least I will know it is there. All the wires hanging out will be attached to the appropriate mechanisms when I install it in the engine bay.”
