About Iowahawkeye

For those of you who may have an interest in "who the new kid on the block" is,  I offer the following profile.  This old baby boomer turned 66 this year, am almost retired from my family law practice of 32 years, and enjoying every minute of being able to return to the hobby I loved so much when I was in grade school in Iowa.  I have been a single dad, raising my daughter from age 4; she is now an attorney as well and happily married.  Prior to going to law school (University of Nebraska College of Law), I was a high school teacher in Marshalltown, Iowa for ten years.  My hobbies are photography, armor and aircraft modeling, bowhunting/tournament archery, and driving vintage British sports cars.

My favorite armor subjects are German tanks and self-propelled guns; as for aircraft modeling, I  prefer building German fighters and bombers.  Recently, the German "paper" tank kits and self-propelled guns have caught my attention.  My favorite WWII tank?...without a doubt,  it is the Tiger I.

When I do a build, I prefer to utilize a diorama rather than just present the model alone.  I seldom do presentations with blood/gore in them (only one so far), and instead prefer to incorporate an element of humor into the diorama story.   I find that I model more "break in the action" dioramas than intense battle scenes.   For some reason,  I seem to often find a way to use water(pond, stream, ice/snow)  in many of my armor dioramas....I really think at times I enjoy the creation of a diorama base (and realistic details with snow or water)  as much or more than building a kit alone.   I prefer enamel Model Master paints for spraying, Ammo Mig or Vallejo acrylics/oils for figures, and The Scenic Factory for pine trees, mud, leaves, and forest ground cover.   My favorite product for the creation of superbly realistic snow is Precision Ice and Snow.

My favorite football teams?  The Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers hands down....I enjoyed a first trip to Lambeau Field this summer, and thought I found a piece of Heaven.   I even own a "cheese head" that I at times wear to a few local sports bars on game day...I live dangerously.
