Why not 12 issues a year?
Posted by mg.mikael on Friday, May 29, 2009 12:35 PM
I guess this is more a question for the administrators and moderators then anyone else, but if you can answer my question then go ahead. My question is......Why is FSM only a 10 issue per year magazine and not a 12 issue a year magazine?Question [?] I guess FSM would need to charge a bit more, but still why not give us modelers the two issues were never getting the June and August issue? I wouldn't mind paying a tad more for twelve issues, so why doesn't FSM start going with the norm? Its not like they'd be short on material or stuff to write about.

Hi mg.mikael,

I'll do my best to answer your question.

Putting out 10 issues a year (technically, 10.5, since November is a jumbo issue) has worked well for FSM. We're a pretty small staff (there's just five of us), so this allows us the opportunity to publish special issues, such as the Great Scale Modeling annual and Essential Techniques for the Model Builder, as well as pursue online ventures.

Then couldn't you simply bring on more interns, aprenticeships, and possibly volunteers onto to the FSM staff inorder to expand it? That is, if you can't hire more people because of your budget. That way with more workers & staff will be working and more issues could be published. Just an idea.

Believe me, we'd love to bring on more staff members and make more magazines. But, as you guessed, we've got a budget to keep in mind.
