Group Builds in a new Forum?
Posted by djmodels1999 on Friday, December 26, 2003 3:35 AM
I was just wondering whether it might be better to have the various Group Builds under one roof so to speak..? Might get more 'cross-modeling' that way, and it would also release space on the first pages of each Forum for the latest topics..?

What do you think?

I have mixed feelings about that one. on one hand it takes up quite a bit of space on 1st pages, but yet I like them in their subject forum.

I'm going to take Chris's side on this debate ... personally I think they are better off in their individual homes.

if they could have a link at the top of the Armour page to all the Armour group builds, it would then free up the first page

There is a post that has every group build listed, and they are direct links to them. I think it's better off to leave 'em in their seperate topics though.

I am with djmodels1999 to put the groups builds into their own forum.

In addition to that I would leave a sticky in each topic forum with links to the individual builds for each topic.

I say establish a dedicated group build forum!
Would it be possible to group them by subject within the main forum?

here's a suggestion, what if there was 2 box lists, one at the top with all the group builds and the second box for all th normal threads.

I too am fed up with having to scroll past endless 'stickies' to get to where I want to be.

It's a six-of-one, half-dozen-of-the-other problem that we've debated quite a bit. On the one hand, we like to keep all of these discussions relating to a particular subject area (e.g., aircraft, armor, autos, etc.) in that area. On the other, as several people have pointed out, the increasing number of stickied group threads at the top of each forum is getting cumbersome.

Perhaps we should have a Group Build forum.......the "hey, let's get together" discussion could start in the various topic areas, then at the point where the group's plans have firmed up and they're ready to have their topic stickied, we can move it to the separate Group Build area. That idea's looking better this morning than it did last week. Thoughts?

P.S. I just read Albertsponson's sig line. ROTFL!

If we had a separate forum , would that mean taking away another part of the page for room?
Would we also have definite start/stop dates so that the new forum wouldn't also get clogged up with stickies?
And could the new forum be subdivided into model subjects for easier viewing?
I have liked this idea from the start, but have seen both sides of it now and would agree with either direction that is picked.

I'm still for leaving the Group Builds in their respective forums.

Each build should have a definite start and a definite finish date.

Sticky status would start say 2 weeks before and end, say 2 weeks after the build. Then the thread can float or sink on it's own activity.

That's my 2 cents.

For the time being, we'll leave the group builds in their respective topic areas. However, what would help is if the lead folks in a build project would let me know when the project is over so I can un-sticky it.

Alternatively, it would help to include the end date for the project in the subject line, e.g.: "Group Build: 1/16 scale Tracked Ginko Weenie (ends 3/25/04)".

In any case, keep buildin'!.......

Yes, but it's available only in a crude injection-molded white metal resin kit, and you'll have to scratchbuild all the thoosenobbles from paper clips and gum wrappers. Wink [;)]
