Thread deletion needed.
Posted by somenewguy on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 6:57 PM

I reckon we need the facility of a thread deletion button again. We had it on the old FSM on the condition that no one had replied to a certain thread, and now it's gone. If a thread one starts proves to be completely uninteresting even to reply, it's good to be able to save ourselves more embarrassment. lol

At the end of the day one's work may be completed but one's education never!

I think there is a time limited deletion ability on posts, don't know about threads once someone's replied, though. Once I post this, I'll look to see if it can be deleted.

EDIT and indeed, it can be deleted, but I did check an older post and I can't delete that. I wonder how long one has to change their mind and kill off posts?

EDIT II looks like a ten minute limit, as the option is now gone, gone, gone.

So long folks!

Yes many posts should not live forever in cyber space. After a thread has gone stale without views or replies for 1 year it should be deleted.

It is a 24 hour a day community and FSM staff cannot be online checking in all the time. A select few trusted active members should hold the power of deleting conversations of poor taste or heated discussions resorting to name calling. Not the power to 'Ban' offensive members, more like the '24 hour suspension' button.2 cents

Trusted by whom? Hmm

This is a subject that pops up now and again. I think the majority of "trusted active members" would decline this honor. I've moderated forums before, and it wasn't a pleasurable duty.

The "report abuse" button works fine.

So long folks!

It's almost just as easy to go into the old post and edit out everything you don't want.... There doesn't appear to be a time-limit on that function... However, if someone replies with a quote of what you wrote, it stays in their post whether you edit or not... However, if you provide them with a link and ask nicely, they may edit their post as well... I know I would if someone asked...
