New font on the site?
Posted by J-Hulk on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 7:20 AM
Please tell me that the FSM has switched to a new font, and it's not just my wacky computer heading off with a new font on its own!

Dave (where have you been, anyway?), please tell me you guys changed the font!

And I'm not usually one to grouse, but this font is a little hard to read (particularly on my little crap 14" fuzzo monitor!). Big Smile [:D]

Having said that, for quite a long time, that is until after the New Year, my home PC showed the 'trimmings' (like the separation between 2 posts) of the forums in olive green while my PC at the office had them in royal blue... Now I have everything olive green (the blue looked good though!)... Strange..!

AFAIK, there have been no font changes recently on the site. Ditto on the colors.

Your browser preferences contain a set of default fonts that are used when the website you're reading doesn't specify the exact fonts to be displayed, which is why some sites may look different when viewed on different machines. For example, by changing my default fonts, I can change the font my the texts of my Yahoo mail messages are displayed in.

I expect that your browser also makes substitutions if a site calls for a font that's not on your machine. But web designers want to make sure their site looks the same on all users' computers, so I suspect fewer and fewer sites leave things up to the default fonts crap-shoot.

J-hulk, if you have trouble reading the font you may want to try and increase the default text size... in IE, it's under the View tool bar. Either that or use the built-in magnifier that comes with most versions of windows (Check in accessibility under accessories)... Getting old, huh? Tongue [:P]

I figured it was my dopey computer...
M1, I do remember you making a similar post a while back!

Thanks, Lawrence! I check into the default thing...funny how this crap machine went 6 months without doing this!

Shrikes, the font I'm seeing now is plenty big, but it's kinda stylized and the letters are a bit difficult to make out (or maybe I've just been in Japan too long!).

Oh well, I'll probably just get used to this, and in a coupla more months you'll be seeing a similar post from me again!

Thanks for all the replies, folks!

Well, my computer doesn't need my help breaking itself! It does just fine in that department all on it's lonesome.

Now I'm at work, and the font's fine!
Oh well...

I certainly can't complain, though. I got this ol' warhorse for free from a buddy, and I'm forever grateful. What with all the glitches, crashes, and other mayhem, I've learned more about computers in 6 months than I have my whole life!

Have you done a check for spyware and other nasties yet, one of the computrs I use at home is also quiet old but still runs smooth.

95% of bad performing PC's aren't running out of juice or resources but need a bit more maintenance and prevention for picking up nasties.

Scandisk, Defrag, Directory, removing "dead Files" as well as checking what's starts up automatically will reduce a lot of load on the system.

If you got 2 Disks install your OS on the smaller one and the Software on the other.
