Photo Upload. There has to be a better way!

I realize this has probably been brought up before, but this is the section for suggestions for improvement. And this is something which I really feel will help improve the site.

SoapBox [soapbox]

We need a better method for uploading pictures than exist now. I am on several other forum boards (I fly RC airplanes too) and none are as difficult to upload pictures as here on FSM. All of these other forum boards use a simple "Browse" option in the posts. Usually there is a size restriction, but this is no big problem to get around.

This is a great site and the people I have met here are top-notch. I will continue to contribute and am greatful to have a site where the people are so friendly. I do not live near a "local" model club so this site for me is the next best thing. In some instances it is actually better because there are more people to bounce things off of, and we are on the forum 24/7.

Many thanks to Ron for allowing all of us to upload pictures via his site.

I did look through all the pages of suggestions before I posted this and I did not see this suggestion, so if this is serious SPAM, then I appologize.

Thanks for listening to the rant. I'll get off the soapbox now.

latch66.

Not a bad suggestion, I have used a similar feature on other boards too.

One problem though with it, it costs a lot in Database space as the image becomes part of the post.

Hence also the size restrictions on many boards for images, signatures, etc.
Database space = Harddisk space = maintenance to keep everything running smooth.

OTOH, ANYBODY can sign up a site like geocities and get 15MB FREE space to host their own pictures and than link the images to their posts.

Just a view from the IT perspective.

Plus the fact that there are awesome people like Ron, that allow people to use their own sites for pics!!!!

This forum is getting pretty big, so at some point, server space will be an issue, especially if pics were hosted here...
