Polls apart
Posted by upnorth on Wednesday, March 5, 2003 6:15 PM
I've noticed a large proliferation of hypothetical opinion polls in the forum over the past while, the aircraft forum is really loading up with them.

I'm of two minds on the matter of those polls, first, maybe we're getting a bit off topic from the main theme of modeling by having those polls around.

Second, it can be a bit of fun to partake in them and maybe draw some inspiration for our next modeling projects from them, so perhaps some space should be made for them as a "brainstorming" exercize.

Either way, if they are in as much proliferation in other forums on the site as they are in the aviation one, perhaps they should have a spot of their own so those who want to talk about the real hobby of modeling without cutting through the hypothetical polls can do so.

Just a thought that might streamline things a bit on the forum so people can more efficiently find what they're after in the forums.

Good idea upnorth, maybe a "polls" forum would be good to seperate the polls from the more "serious" areas

I guess that I would have to agree upnorth, though it seems a bit hypocritical considering I've participated in most of them. While these polls do very little in the way of advancing modeling, they are fun. What better place to discuss such things than with people that have similar interests. Most of the time when I go to the hobby shop I don't buy a thing. I just look and shoot the breeze, Often talking about things that have little to do with modeling. This is "our" rather large cyber-shop if you will. I do foresee the number of polls diminishing soon. Maybe we could have one last poll...which poll is the best? maybe not!

I say the polls are fun, and a great way to get to know each other. If you aren't interested in them, don't read them. No one forces you to read them, this is still the USA, and we are still free! God bless our troops!

I didn't suggest the polls be forbidden, simply given their own forum section.

I believe in freedom of speech and opinion as much as the next person, but I deplore the disorganization that I see in some other sites with forums in them.

A well streamlined, neat and tidy forum area is a lot easier to move around in and find what you want quickly than a more cluttered one. There's obviously enough polls in the aviation section alone to constitute their own forum section.

As I said to begin with, the polls can be fun, I've put my two cents worth in on a few of them.

Giving polls their own forum space would also help those who like them, find them easier.

No need for the fife and drum thing around me.

There's lots of people with lots to say, lets keep the forums organized so people keep coming to them
