How do you pick your next modelling project????

I don't pick it...it picks me...

Iagree my kits speak to me .Sometimes it gets so loud in the shop well you know they all speak at once. I snould get back to my kits i hear them calling.Ron

I agree with the above. Looking at the stash or the kits in the shop one or two will say  "Build me" and that will be the next one.

gotta go with manny on this one. I open my cabinet (s) and look. IT will call out to me, crying to be liberated from it's dank, cardboard box. Then it will be happy as i build it, then suddenly I hit a snag. IT goes half-completed back into the box not to return for another year. The cycle goes on...

Besides what the others say,it also depends if i signed up for a group build,then I would start that one.

Group builds are where one subject is picked that others want to build. Dates for start & completion are set and collectively as a group everyone signs in with a kit related to the original subject. WIP's (work in progress) pictures are posted & everyone has a common theme being built. They share research, ideas, reference photographs, techniques and it is open to all skill levels. It really is the best way to go, I for one am signed up to 4 right now, 2 of which are covered by the same kit. The next build i do is the FW-190 as it is a GB also, with a deadline of October 31 I will be forced to build OOB (out of box)... something I need to do for a change.

Somebody comes up with a subject,like Big Cats,Korean War,Eastern Front,and so forth.See Group build Forum.If you are interested you sign up.All particpants post their subject,some progress shots,and finally a finished shot.Everybody shares encouragement and offers suggestions and feedback.When the given time period is up ,everyone who completes a build is awarded a badge which you can display in your profile.They are usually a lot of fun and you get to know the gys.

Cool thank you.  After i posted that about the GB's i realized that their is a section for them.  So I have been poking around in that now a bit.

Ditto what everyone has said about the group builds. I'm committed to four at the moment. Funny things have happened. Sometimes it's a kit you already have that fits the topic perfectly. Others it's an interesting topic that makes you go buy something. And still others it's a bit of both. Heck, I joined the 8th AAF group build because I already had a P-51D in the wings. Now I've added a P-51B and a P-47D to the roster...

join a GB, it everyone is helpfull and the best thing is you get to see other peoples builds as they are coming along

just an FYI there is a f-18 GB and a F-16 gb starting

oooo i would really love to do an F-16.

I use to let my cat pick my next project but some sorry SOB stole him a couple of month ago so now I'm lost.

Sometimes I read a book or see a show or movie, and then decide, "hey I should build one of those...." sometimes, it's a Group Build here that sounds great and I have plenty of subjects in my stash that would fit in quite nicely (FW-190 GB, Battle of Britain GB)... and other times I look at my completed kits and see that while I am well represented in one are (late WWII Allied fighters, Western Front Panzers) I am lacking in their opposite numbers so I choose from among my stash a suitable adversary. The end result is usually several builds going at any given time...

Hmmmmm interesting.  I had only asked because i have soooo many things that i want to do i just dont know where to begine and where i would love to build a couple of kits at the same time my modeling table that built is just not big enough.

My dream build if I had the time,money and space i'd like to find that sewer dio in 1/35 by jaguar and make that my center piece in a street dio with a half a city block inculdeing germans in the sewer and russians infantry and a t-34 above on the street. make it like the germans are doing a surprise attack to knock out the t-34 from the sewer.

I'm involved in three group builds with three aircraft (Swing Wing & Alley Cat GB's with a F-14A; Viper GB with two F-16C's) I already had these in my stash so I jumped at the chance to build them in the group builds. Now if I could ever get the Osprey finished...lol.

but on a serious note, a group build would be a good way to go. There are lots of motivation and support for projects in them. Look  in the GB forums to see if any catch your eye. BUt then the question might be "How do you pick your next group build!"

There are several Armour, ship, car, truck & space line I would like to do, but I doubt I will ever get to them. The list of aircraft that I want to do is simply excruciating.

I don't really keep a stash as such, usually just the next 1 or 2 kits I plan to build - this make choosing the next kit easy. I have a preferred list of aircraft in my head & I buy them when needed working from the top of the mental list.

That being said I would like to fit the Big E & Saturn 5 into my collection.

I like to keep a combination of military jets, military prop.s, military vehicles, and military figures. That helps keep a nice variety. At most I have 4 at a time going. I have a shelf that can hold 4 cutting mats. On each mat I have the parts for a model, and the box with the parts I'm not using yet are on top of the shelf. That way is more efficient than just doing one at a time. When one is drying/setting, I just get another one. On the other shelves I keep reference books, and kit boxes. mostly, to decide on a kit, I just pick one on a subject that I haven't worked on in a while, like a helicopter, or a Macchi, for examaple.

Cool thats an interesting way to doit.  I currently have 5 that i have started and area in their boxes and on the shelf.  I have a U.S.S Constitution that i have been working on for the better part of 2 years.  I'm at the point where its so frustrating to tigh the freaking knots with the tiny cord. I will take it down and do a little and then get frustrated and put it away for a while.

I used to let my Siberien Husky pick for the one he smelled the longest was the next one but he died 3 years ago from a heart attack ripe old agr of 79 in human years  so now I just altrnate between aircraft, and armor.           ACESES5                    [::DD0 lunch time                     on bench FW190A-8 PIPS PRILLER

As I'm placing the new kit in the stash pile I spot something else that I hadn't thought of in a long time. THAT's the one I end up building!!

You know, until I run out of glue...

As for me, my stash is small therefore my burden is light. It's not that difficult for me to choose what to build next when there are only 5 or 6 kits to choose from. What's difficult is deciding what's the next kit I should buy...

I actually do, eventually, end up finishing stuff once I get sat down to do it. My big problem is that I shut down for 'ball season in the summer, it always feels like I'm starting over once fall hits.
