iPod??
Posted by VanceCrozier on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 8:26 AM

Hello FSM. I occasionally use my iPod when on the road to check in on the forum. Although I can login & browse with no issues, I can't post on a thread or reply to messages. I know it's difficult (and sometimes costly!) to optimize this stuff for everyone but there may be a growing demand on portable devices. Just throwing it out there!

Vance-

Thanks for the feedback. Upgrading our site to be more mobile friendly is definitely something we've been considering. As you mentioned, it is difficult and takes a lot of work. When we do decide to upgrade, we'll make sure you forum guys are some of the first to know!

I would second this request, especially now that I've got an iPad to play with!

One idea that may be simpler than completely reconfiguring the forum would be the ability to reply via e-mail to subscribed threads...

Sounds like a good option, that would open it up for anyone with a smartphone, not just us Mac addicts...

The other problem is that the forum page is covered with so many links that everytime I access it on my phone I end up clicking to several pages unintentionally. Formatting the site for "portable devices" would make it easier to navigate without so many accidental hitting of links. Just my 2 cents And a big thank you as well for taking this into consideration!

Yep. Similar to how Wordpress, for example, has an automatic "mobile" theme that pulls up on phones.

Another thought (sorry, I work in social media and community management, so I've had to wrestle with this stuff professionally from time to time) - an FSM app. That'd save the effort of having to rejigger the forums.

Ditto I noticed that as soon as I learned how to use the Wi-Fi on my iPod. I can look all shift long at work when time permits while out in my duties, but cant say a word...Zip it!

Hope you are not kidding me... I won't be able to use my new iPad here as I am expecting it to arrive next week.  Everybody is getting iPad nowadays... now is a good timing to upgrade to keep up with the ever changing technology.

I'd love to see an iPad app for FSM.  Have a free version that works just like the website and another version for magazine subscribers.

That would ROCK!

I agree.  I have been using iPad more than ever... I still visit FSM but I can't make comments.  This is one of the reasons why I have been visiting other modeler forums more when I am using my iPad.  FSM is still my first choice but it can be frustrating that you can't even make comments... Angry

Is anybody at FSM reading this?

Please fix this issue before I order my smartphone this winter. Big Smile
