Question on reviews of models
Posted by Mustang8376 on Friday, January 20, 2012 11:21 AM

I am truly enjoying the magazine, and have so for years.  Yet I was always wondering, what would it take to have reviews of the Macross Plus models from Hasegawa (Macross Plus), Polar Lights, Fine Molds and sci fi models in general?  I collect Modern aircraft and sometimes armor, but I see that there are sci fi models being released, just not reviewed?  Is the genre considered that small, or is it just somethign that has slipped through the cracks?

Current build: 1/32 Hasegawa F6F-5

Completed:  1/48 Hasegawa F-16C, 1/48 Revell Mig-21PFM, 1/48 Revell/Monogram AH-64A, Revell/Monogram 1/48 F-14D, AMT 1/420 USS Defiant, AMT 1/650(?) USS Enterprise, 1/72 Bandai VF-1J, AMT 1/537 USS Reliant, Academy 1/35 M1-A1 Abrams, Academy 1/48 F-86F30, Linbergh's USS Gato

While you may not have seen anything recently, they do reveiw those kits as well, at least the Polar Lights, Mobeius and Pegasus kits.  I don't recall any Macross stuff though....  Over the past year they did the Mobieus Galactica and a Viper but I forget which MK it was...

Don't get me wrong, love the reviews.  Most likely just having one of those "Why aren't they catering to me and what I like!!!" moments.  :)

Mustang,

While science fiction is not the largest genre of models FSM reviews, we do review some models as they become available. In the last 18 months or so we've reviewed:

Monarch's Sinbad

Moebius's Battlestar Galactica

Pegasus's "When World's Collide" Space Ark

Polar Lights 1966 Batmobile

In the April issue, I review the Pegasus "War of the Worlds" Tripod.

Cheers, Aaron

Have you ever visited the website "Starship Modeler"? It is one site that reviews sci-fi models.

On there also, under the same username.  Great for the some of the genres I am interested in, but sometimes I would like to know what someone thought of a particular kit, how big is the completed model.  Last time I asked that over there, it was somewhat vague.  *shrug*

Thank you again everyone for the help and suggestions.  Somethign alogn this line is what I was looking for.

Ecspecially since it is based on an aircraft that is fictional, I have an idea how big it will be, ecpsecially with my limited time to build and an ever increasing stash! :)
