Listing Group Builds
Posted by EBergerud on Saturday, February 18, 2012 5:07 PM

Group Builds are fun, but we have another surplus of riches here. I don't think it needed to limit the numbers of them, but I think it would be a very good idea to segregate finished builds from those that are ongoing. As it stands, it's not very clear what's going on and what is not. And, if you have to go through five or six pages of posts, it's very easy to miss one altogether. Phil Flory's fine site is smaller than ours, but they retire the inactive groups at a decent interval and put them in an archive section, where they are still very useful if modeling the subject. That makes it very easy to see which groups exist and are active. Might also be nice if the GBs are put in the GB section. I think some of them morph from already existing builds. For instance, I can't find "Castles of Steel" - an issue that interests me because I'm in it.

A model boat is much cheaper than a real one and won't sink with you in it.

To be honest, I like to participate in group builds, but can't stand to follow the threads for dozens of pages. For every work-in-progress post with a photo there are a dozen "good job" posts. Miss a couple days without visiting the thread and a five page thread jumps to 15 pages. If you jump to the last page, you may miss many photos of great work, but if you click through each page, 90% end up being just "good job" posts.

I think you can subscribe to a particular thread to follow it and take you right to that post though.
