Welcome back!  I too returned after a 35 yr hiatus and boy has it changed.... and for the better mostly.  Since I build a/c only, not sure what the auto guys use but cutting tools, glues (CA, cement, clear cemet etc.), sanding paper, not sure if you want to invest in an air brush or just use rattle cans for now.  I would recommend buying a book/mag on "Building Model Cars" (or whatever you decide to build), there are a lot of pointers on "how to" and basic "must haves" for tools.  Good luck and welcome back!

Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom.  Peace be with you.

Returning to Hobby
Posted by allenr74 on Monday, June 11, 2012 10:27 AM

Hello,

I built some models when I was in my teenage years.  Now, 20 years later, I would like to return to the hobby.

Can anyone suggest some basic tools (aside from exact knives) that I should gather?  Also, what about paints?  Brush paints, spray paints or airbrush?

My nine year-old son is extremely interested in cars.  I think I would like to start building cars to "fuel" his interest and introduce him to this hobby.

Any suggestions are valued and would be extremely helpful!

Thanks!
