Article suggestion: matchstick model maker profile
Posted by Vlad the Impala on Saturday, September 15, 2012 11:27 AM

I received an e-mail a while back about an amazingly talented fellow:

79-year-old Phil Warren from the UK spent 62 years to build this incredible fleet of 432 ships and 1200 aircraft, all built entirely of matchsticks and their wooden boxes. The collection includes 370 U.S. and 60 British ships and their associated aircraft.

Now 79 years of age, he began creating his first boat in 1948 when he was 17.  He uses a razor blade, tweezers, sandpaper and glue. He has used more than 650,000 matchsticks to create this amazing collection of 1:300 scale models.

It might be of interest to the readership to cover his work in more detail, if not done already.

I second this! He could be a whole issue himself.

This is Amazing -an overly used word- but certainly true in this case.

This gentleman is a Modeler,  in the finest traditions of our hobby.

His accomplishments Should be recognized with an in depth article as soon as the

production schedule permits.

I have seen other articles on this fellow .And my landlady wants to know where I am going to put my simple WW 2 battlegroup ! I do know you can buy the matches from the manufacturer for craft uses .    WOW ! ! Does NOT cover this talent ! I am very impressed and this makes me wonder if there's any way I can live and model till I am 125 !     Tanker-builder

Absolutely outstanding doesn't cover it either. The only thing I can think of is Bow Down Bow Down Bow Down. He deserves a multi-page article.
