Common questions or FAQ's stickied.
Posted by Scorpiomikey on Friday, December 28, 2012 4:12 PM

Hi, alot of the forums get really common or frequently asked questions, like whats future? that sort of thing, it might be an idea to put a sticky post at the top of each forum with some FAQ's in it so were not getting the same questions rotating through every few weeks.

Just a thought.

That would be a good idea. I usually try searching first before posting a question, but it usually goes like this:

Search: Drybrush

Results: "...I used blah blah to drybrush this piece..."

"...I finished this off with a drybrush..."

etc.

Never have any luck finding what I am looking for, such as, "what is drybrushing?" So the question gets asked. Again.

I just ignore the common and repetive questions, like "What is a good compressor to buy", etc.

I fondly remember the days of newsgroups like rec.models.scale.  All the popular groups had FAQs.  But most of the popular groups were unmoderated, and vandals took over and wrecked most of Usenet.  Rec.models.scale was a real asset to model building.

One of the problems with sticky threads is that in this forum, only the admins/mods have the ability to make a thread sticky. If the OP of a thread is not a mod and they go back to edit the first post in a thread after it's been made sticky, it reverts to a normal thread.

The solution to that is the mods made the sticky thread. And if a question (or variation of a question) gets asked 3 or more times in a 12 month period it goes on the FAQ list.
