this is a good idea and would work as the time would be known by the members. different time zones would not play a part if we went by the time used to mark our posts. this would also take care of the random spam-spouting troublemakers. beginning to warm more to this idea.

I think access to the Chat-room should be limited to forum members only, this can be done by either hiding the link in a members only page, requesting a login using the forum name and password or similar.

One possible problem I see though the topics and discussions in the chat-room might soon go out of hand, 2 guys wanting to chat about a plane kit, 3 about an armor kit and we get lots of cross-chatting and static.

Other forums I have been to assigned chat-times twice a week. The Chat-room is always open but at those times the chances of having people in it are increased, natually this might be awkward for members not in that particualr time-zone.

If the yes's have it, the guy is gone. It seems to work very well. As of this site, I think 99.9% of the people here can self police very well. I have seen a few posts that were deemed quite offensive and the guys were pounced on quite quickly by other members telling them of their mistake. Just my 2 pennies worth. I do think it is a great idea as well.

i agree that this site has people who self-police very well and effectively, but you put in a chat room you get those who only go to the site for the chat. they have no interest in modeling or anything to do with the hobby. these are the ones to whom i refer. the idea of a eject button is a good one. this is in effect putting a monitor on the site.

again just my opinion

a chat room may be good but remember to have a good chat room it must be monitored. otherwise all sorts of things happen, and the chat room hurts the overall effect of the site. take for example i am a bowler, columbia 300 (a bowling mfg) has a chat room. this was great at first pros and amatuers both frequented the room with great and informative conversation. after a while it became clear that the room was a free for all, even as far as very expicit conversations from adults directed toward the kids who frequented the site. this is a negetive for the site. now i havent been on that site in over two years. they may have cleaned house but i would have a hard time going to a site with unmonitored chat, my four children sometimes browse this forum and i will not go somewhere they might not be safe. this hobby is one of the few pure areas that is safe in thier lives.

justMy 2 cents [2c]

I would love a chat room around here! I think there's enough of us around here to make it work too. Hope Mr. Hansen is listening.............

I would imagine that if it were posted for the public, obviously, more folks would use it.

Maybe there's a way to list who's in chat on the forum page...

Just a thought.

I suppose that is the trouble with so many of us being from all over the globe. You have members to this forum from Europe, Aisa, North America etc. We all live in different time zones and have different scheduals so I suppose that could be a potential problem. I do agree it is a great idea but it can become cumbersome. Great points by all of you. But I think you can see were I am going. It just might be too difficult especially during the workweek for us to be on at the same time of day. Just food for thought.

there is a chatroom being tested by the test team. problem is that there is very few team members that actualy do sign on to it. try requesting to become a member of the test team, the more there are the more it will be used and there's more of a chance there is of it becoming online for all the members.
hope this helps.

Hey I still can't get an anwser to my historical column request that is after more than one email or posting to. Mr. Hanson. I would support a Chat Room. I think that are are often enough of us on to at one time to find it feasable and interesting to chat with one another in real time. I think that would be a nice idea?

I was hoping that my column idea would spark more interest from the administration, (Again not trying to be disrespectful here, I realise that not all our requests can be a top priority, but it would be nice to see a historical column for people to discuss what we model from a historical standpoint.)

All this posting...it's like a time delayed conversation.

How about it Dave...if we can muster enough support from the masses, you think the management would go for it???

I motion that we demand a chat room in our next contract negotations... Big Smile [:D]
