FSM Staff - HELP !!
Posted by tankerbuilder on Sunday, June 29, 2014 9:46 AM
HI ; I am writing this and hitting the enter key after each sentence There is a reason . If you read some of my last posts , you'll see that they are jumbled and devoid of paragraph spacing . Am I doing something wrong ? Even when I go to edit and try correcting it nothing happens . I need your help .I am running through Google and Road Runner as home sites and I've not been aware till this month that I am intentionally or unintentionally doing something wrong . Help !

I've gotten into the habit of hitting the "Return" key whenever I want to start a mew paragraph. A blank line then appears between paragraphs. Like this:

I wonder if part of your problem might have to do with punctuation marks and spacing. Don't hit the space key before a comma, period, or other punctuation mark. After the punctuation mark, just hit the space key once. (That's not how l was taught to type in high school, but I'm trying to break the habit of double-spacing after periods.)

Another tip: proofread. My phone, on which I type some of my posts, thinks it's smarter than I am. It's usually right, but it frequently injects some pretty weird stuff into my sentences. If I go back and change such things, the...apparatus...generally recognizes that I really meant what I said.

To err is human. To really screw things up requires a computer.

Tanker builder, I just read another of your posts in which you mention trouble with the return key. What sort of computer are you using? (Desktop? Laptop? Phone) I'm wondering if there's something wrong with your return key. Maybe a little dirt or something. Does it work right in programs other than this one?

Which browser are you using? Google Chrome seems to work ok (it's what I use), but I've heard of Internet Explorer's newest version is giving some issues until you enable Compatibility Mode. Might wanna check your browser settings. Anything Windows-related will update itself automatically to the newest versions unless you specifically disable the Auto Update feature.

Devil Dawg may have nailed the problem. You might want to try Mozilla Firefox. It's a free download; I use it as my normal browser on my Mac, and it hasn't given me any trouble.

On my I-phone I use Safari, which came installed in it. Apart from its infuriating efforts to "correct" my typing, it's worked fine. (I sure wish it would accept that I know the difference between "it's" and "its," though. I had to type that last sentence twice.)

Thank You all . I really don't know what's going on .On other sites and Facebook , Twitter and my E-mails it's doing okay , that's why it has me puzzled .

It also seems like you hit the "space bar" at odd points in your sentence.

Hi Tankerbuilder,

OK, let's see if we can get this fixed.

As Devil Dawg asked, can you tell me which browser you are using? If you're using the latest Internet Explorer version, you're probably running into a compatibility issue. If you are using IE, then you need to change to compatibility mode. I just had to do this for my sister over the weekend, so it's not an uncommon. Here's a link to help you.

Let's see if that helps you out. Use this thread to test your returns. If it doesn't work, or you're using a different browser, we'll work from there.

Tim
