How about a kitbash forum?

I'm still of the same opinion, whether it's for what-if subjects or kit-bashes (conversions, etc).  I think they already fit quite nicely in the relevant existing forums.  Aircraft belong in Aircraft, Armor in Armor, Ships in Ships, and so on.

They really mean "Whiffer forum" not "kit-bash forum", Don.

And I completely agree that the What-If guys should have their own forum to call home on FSM.

I would say the majority of posts, or nearly so, in the scratchbuilding forum already are either kitbashes, or at least a semi-scratch project that uses a mix of raw materials, parts from kits, and aftermarket detail parts.  How about just changing the name of that forum to Kitbash and scratch projects?

The way this forum is currently organized, I think it's sufficient to post a kitbash in the relevant existing forum, rather than to separate kitbashes into their own forums or subforums.

Since he states "completely different from the original" I'm thinking he isn't kitbashing Sherman A + B to get a more accurate Sherman C. More like adding warp drives to a battleship and making something from the Macross universe.

I think it might be better off in the final project's subject forum, but I can see why you might want a separate one. Other than aircraft, I don't see a whole lot of traffic in any single forum.

Which kind of kit-bashing are you talking about?

Are you talking about the old fashioned use of the term, which is taking the best parts from two or more Sherman kits to produce a "better Sherman model"? (for these posts, they would fit in the Aircraft, Tank, Ship, etc forums already in place)

Or are you talking about creating imaginary combinations of parts from different kits to create something never seen before, such as dual Stuart turrets on a Tiger chassis?

I ask because those would be completely different forums from their first post on,,,,,one is slanted somewhat towards "accuracy seekers",,,,,and the other is so far away as to be an almost "anti rivet counter forum" (both do have their interesting points, though)

In Poland we say the tea doesn't get sweeter from stirring itself, and also the traffic on the forum doesn't increase from the creation of sub-forums. With what we have already, we see people posting in wrong forums (like asking about a tank in the aircraft forum) or forum that doesn't yield much answers (like asking about markings of a german WWII fighter in the painting and decaling forum instead of aircraft). I'm not agains adding another sub-forum, but I think it wouldn't do any good for anybody. If you're into kitbashing a Tank/AFV, why not post in the armor forum with a big KITBASH in the subject to attract interested readers? Thanks for reading and have a nice day

I would love to see a kitbashing sub-section and admire others creative ideas.

About amount of traffic, I'm so into kitbashing right now that I would create some !  

Anyway I would post my WIP about this Revell Stug III I'm working on (along with a turret from a Tamiya M2 Bradley and some leftover missiles from an old Monogram bird)

There are a number of threads that occur in the scratchbuilding forum about kitbashing that I believe the scratchbuilding forum can continue to handle that offshoot.  There is not an overwhelming amount of traffic on that forum.  Often there is debate on where the dividing line is between kitbashing and scratchbuilding.  If you use some parts from a kit when you scratch build a model, is it no longer scratch?  How about if you use third party detail stuff instead of from a kit?
