GMorrison

Tim has explained this plenty. They are a magazine, and magazines make money selling advertising. Not subscriptions, advertising. How do you explain to customers who you charge to advertise on the one hand, that you are giving away free exposure under your masthead to sellers, on the other.

Give it a little thought...

I am on a model car forum, and trading is allowed. The forum is free. I don't see how trading has anything to do with a forum being or not being free.

Hi, I am Lee, I am a plastiholic.

GMorrison,

Thank you for the info and I agree with what you said. It is what keeps the forums free. I appreciate the reply and like I said I do apologize for re-hashing the subject. Thank you for the hint as well. Again thank you for the info and thank you and to the others for providing all of us this awesome forum for us to discuss meet and so on.

This from the Forum Guidelines:

"5. Advertisements. If you would like to advertise a product that your commercial company manufactures, or if you are an individual private seller, you can buy a classified ad in the magazine or an ad on the Web site. This includes all buying, selling, and trading. Any posts that appear to be an advertisement or transaction will be deleted."

It's been discussed plenty, but paid advertising is what gets us a free forum, right?

I have however had lots of luck with folks who say "I just inherited a lot of junk. PM me ("start a conversation") with your email address and I'll send you a list", kind of thing.

This is directed toward the mods, I'm not sure if this subject has been brought up before and if it has I apologize for re-hashing it. I'm fairly new to this forum community and I absolutely love it. It is great to meet fellow modelers who are willing to dispense advice and give complements. I was wondering if it would be possible for community members to possibly post on a forum items, kits, etc that they may be wanting sell or what ever. The mods can place a big disclaimer that all trans action are private and FSM is in no way liable for those transactions. I mention this idea because some members don't have a club or IPMS chapter near them. To date I have had two community members graciously provide me with materials that I have been searching for to continue a couple of my builds. Like I said I'm sure this subject has been brought up before and may have been tried. If so like I said I do apologize for the re-hash and I'm aware that there may be potential concerns of FSM as to why this subject forum is not allowed. I'm sure that you will agree that it doesn't hurt to at least ask.

Respectfully,

Souda99
