Kit Review Suggestion

I'll second that, though in the mag they have done a couple of side by sides of two kits.  Was nice to see that.

Hi Phil and welcome. I agree, but I could see where it would be difficult for the magazine, as by definition probably some kits would come across better than others.

But if you can find a forum that is focused on the things you like, including here, see what the members have to say. Most search engines will find things pretty quickly, esp. if you include "review" in your search.

I tend to not read "in the box" reviews, and I really like reviews thast describe the difficult parts of a kit.

Some years back, some reviews were build-only, no paint or filler. Those can be really interesting. Then that slipped into paint and filler ok, but no "aftermarket" parts. 

Now there doesn't seem to be as much dicipline regarding that, resulting in some builds that are almost unrecognizable from what was in the box.

But it's not hard to sort out.

 

And always ask here. You'll get good honest opinions.

Perth Military Modeling has quite a few comparison reviews. Many are quite in-depth. However, they only review AFV’s and their accessories. Unfortunately, the site owner has had some personal problems of late and there haven’t been any updates since October 2018, but is still loads of info on the site. Hi FSM,

I just wanted to say that, as a modeller returning to the hobby after many years away, I am thoroughly enjoying your magazine and website, especially learning the new products and techniques that have developed over my years in the wilderness.

I have one suggestion regarding reviewing model kits. All the reviews I've seen have been great, but they are made in isolation. I'd love to see comparison reviews, where the best 3 or 4 kits of one subject in one scale are reviewed and compared side by side. Comparison points could include finish, fit, detail, accuracy, quality, range of decal choices, inclusion of figures (seated pilots, tank crew, etc), option choices, price, compatible after market masks and PE, etc. This would aid modellers in choosing which offering would suit their wishes best.
