May 2004 FineScale Modeler
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 3:51 PM
The May issue "officially" goes on sale at stores and newsstands today, and *most* subscribers should have received their copies or soon will (the post office willing). So it's time for a little informal feedback on said issue. Nothing fancy, nothing official, and as always, don't think about your answer too long. On a multiple-choice test, the answer that comes to mind first is usually the right one. Wink [;)]

Greetings! I love every issue of FSM and this month was no exception. With that being said, I would like to mention a disappointment from the latest issue. I was looking forward to the article on painting eyes, only to find it covered large scale only! Not being a figure builder, I was hoping for some guidance on the much more common scales - 1/35, 1/32, and 148 (if eyes can be painted that small!). Any chance of getting an article on the smaller scales?
Thanks for the great mag!
Sincerely,
Jeff Belitsky

I voted for the T34 simply because I'm working on a dragon T34. Isn't it typical. I start a project, it ends up in Finescale a week later.

I'm ordering the Goblin this week, it was a short article, but I think he cut to the chase well enough (some articles seem to go on forever). It was nice to see such a unique kit, something that looks to be a short build, and something that I would not have known about without the coverage. Thanks for adding another kit to my growing collection!!!

I'm recently back to modeling, ships mostly although air and armour are looking pretty interesting as well. The job that was done on the water is incredible! Can't wait until the article on that comes out.

Very good issue this month. My favorite article was the WW2 ID models. What a great piece of history that I never new. Just think of the generation of modelers that were born from that war time effort. The Goblin was also a very interesting article to read.

I agree, the article on WWII ID models was very neat, and even touching. I'd liked to have seen more photos of the finished model, however.

We need to be able to select more then one!!!! Seriously. I've learned a ton in the last year after about 25 years out of commission.
I started rebuilding my old Momogram and Revell kits for practice, and I find it more fun then buying new ones. Easy Off works great, Future, a new paint brush, scratch built broken parts, weathering, its great.
Great articles, tips and the forums have a ton of info. I've got to get a digital camera to show this stuff off.

Disapprove [V] 1/35th eyes! I always love FSM, but could a future FSM include an article on how to paint 1/35th scale eyes?

I vote for the T-34 because it was a complete "how to" but man Talal's LAV was JAW DROPPER!!!!

Where can see more pictures from that incredible LAV-25? The detail was absolutely jaw dropping.

way to go FSM. as usual i found all the articles very interesting. especially on the basics of brush painting. it actually gives me the courage to use my brushes more than a spray can all of the time. now if i can just muster up enough intestinal fortitude to try something new. Air Brushing. any of you fine folks in the forum model tractor trailers? i'd like very much for some tips on the best techniques to use if any one wants to share them. i'm a truck driver by trade so i love modeling big trucks. hey FSM take note: can you guys perhaps do an article on big truck models? one last thing: whats the best way to use Future floor polish and is it ok to use super glue on my models? thanks

There's a book by FSM in the shop on this site called "How to Build Dioramas" (Second Edition) By Sheperd Paine that features a lot of general tips for painting figures. Many of the tips are more applicable for large scales, but you get the gist of things especially the shading techniques.

Im here in the "sand box" fighting the war and I always look foward to getting my Fine Scale Modeler at mail call. This month was no exception, the LAV was breath taking and the goblin article was a real motivator as well. It was worth the wait. I am into 1/48 scale aircraft and would love to see how face detail is added to smaller scale figures. Keep up the good work, I cant wait till the next issue comes out!Big Smile [:D]

I've purchased many different modelers magazines over the years, all with appeal and equally all with appeal to the most specific modelling subjects, however, i've yet to find the equal of FineScale. Not every issue contains the subject matter of my choice yet, there is always something new to learn or a reminder of something forgotten.........FineScale's appeal is universal and seldom disappointing.
thank you again.
