a call out ot all European readers

Guys: FSM state that European readers are excluded from their Sweepstakes because of "complicated" rules on "games of chance".

QUOTE:
Liam,

Thank you for the inquiry regarding the monthly sweepstakes.

The Canadian province of Quebec and all other countries outside of North America are not included because each country and/or Canadian province sets their own rules for sweepstakes. Sweepstakes are considered games of chance, and are regulated differently by each country and province. In most countries, the legal standards are quite stringent, making it very difficult to properly conduct a sweepstakes. Due to our limited distribution in countries outside of North America, the differing rules governing each country/province, and the associated expenses it is virtually impossible for us to include countries outside of North America in our sweepstakes.

We wish it were easier to conduct sweepstakes in Ireland and other countries, but for now, we must limit participation to most areas of North America. We sincerely appreciate your interest in FineScale Modeler magazine and we apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

Best regards,

Michael

So you know how I feel. I was wondering if anybody out there, from Europe or further afield, who buy FSM feel similar? Any creative suggestions as to how we could be included by the magazine we buy? (as they seem incapable or uninterested in thinking one up themselves)

I am not suggesting you switch loyalty to another rag, but I do think, that since we do plonk our hard-earned cash down for this publication, that they should be a bit more considerate.

Thoughts?

I think they have a valid reason why they are unable to hold contests elsewhere in the world.

Thanks for the comment, Chris. Are you based in Europe? This shout out is directed thataway.
I am looking for European and further-afield. I believe I can guess the response of the majority of the American readership.

As for FSM, I am sure they feel they have valid reasons. If you checked the link to my earlier post, you'll see I mentioned an English Aviation modelling magazine that has no porblems with international laws and such like with it's competitions. So, itt can be done. The question is "How?", not "why?"

Maybe it's a matter of changing the format of the sweepstakes as such or just having a seperate, Non-American competition?
But I feel that the American readers would be put out by such a suggestion. So, the American readers get no "inconvieniance" but the rest of us do?
Not fair.

actually, it's not that they could hold competitions "elsewhere" i nthe worls that's the problem. The competition, or sweepstakes as they call it, is held in America, in an American publication that is sold and promoeted in Europe and so on.

My point is that if the problem is the TYPE of competition, ie a sweepstakes, then change the format of the competition to include ALL the readership. If the English can do it, so can the Americans.

Liam,

I'am a reader in Holland and has been wondering for a long time way we couln't be in the sweepstakes involved as well. May-be FSM should figure out a way that more readers could have a say in this.

Happy modeling

I'm a reader in Japan, and I fully accept the valid reasons presented by FSM for not being able to carry out the sweepstakes worldwide. While I do feel it is unfortunate, I do not feel it is unfair.
I certainly do not feel personally cheated by the situation. The money I pay is for the magazine itself, not for sweepstakes or any other promotional gimmicks.

However, I do respect and support Liam's rights to pursue this topic to his satisfaction, and laud his tenacity in doing so.
