I don't have any info, but just wanted to share my joy with that article!! That was a very awesome piece. I really didn't expect anything like it by looking at the cover. I never knew that they did that. You really do learn something new everyday!! Let us know if you make one, as I would truly like to see it!!! Good Luck!!

As far as I know, you'd have to track down a set of original WWII plans in order to build one of those models. I suppose you'd look for them at flea markets, swap meets, or wherever WWII memorabilia is sold. Who knows? There may even be a set somewhere in your grandfather's attic.

Here's a great site with info on recognition models. They sell replicas (I think in Bakelite or plastic), but they're pretty expensive:

http://www.aircraftmodels.com/idrecog.htm

No plans, however.

This site has some history on them:

http://www.72scale.com/history.htm

I've got an old book on building wooden airplane models, but I just moved, so I'll have a heck of a time digging it out. When I do, however, I'll post the title and maybe a sample scan.

Eureka!

This looks like the best site I've seen so far:

http://www.ualberta.ca/~khorne/solid/solid.html

It's got plans, information on how-to build the models, etc.

The plans are in PDF format and they look like exactly what's needed to build the wooden models.
