FSM 10 issues. Why?
Posted by lolok on Thursday, May 20, 2004 8:56 AM
Just when the warm weather comes and we can relax in the garden or on a beach with a good read we have to do without FSM. Why only ten issues still. ?

I was wondering that same thing when looking at subscribing. I may wait until September so I can get a constant run of issues.

Actually this has been brought up before. It seems FSM doesn't feel they can get enough advertsing and that the quality would suffer if they produced 12 issues. I wish they would produce areaders gallery issue during the summer to fill the void. Yah, an issue with nothing more than readers photos and some small degree of advertising.

Recently, TMMI went monthly. I really hope FSM does the same.

Sure would be nice to have 12 issues per year. No matter how many other bills might be in the mailbox with it, it's always a pleasure to see FSM.

Yes tigerman I also think a special issue of just readers/competition photos would be great and maybe a special interest issue as well to make the 12. Its been soooooo long since the last issue

Yeah, I'd like to have 12 issues per year, but if it reduces the overall quality of the mag, I'll live with 10.

Cheers, LeeTree

The good news is the July issue is on its way, and the teasers should be up on the website by Monday. I'm talkin' about the special All D-Day All the Time (almost) issue.

And, thank heaven, there's these Forums to tide you over the lean summer months. Wink [;)]Smile [:)]

I wish.... The two "off" months are taken up by working ahead for (1) the jumbo issue in November and (2) Great Scale Modeling.

I think that 10 issues is enoughf but they could go with two more issues.ONE could be readers tips and the other could be a gallery issue.Digger

I for one would sure like to see 12 issues. For June and August, I'll go back and read an issue that's several years old but it always makes my day when I see FSM in the mail box! How about making FSM a weekly magazine? (Yeah, I know, but it's nice to dream, eh?Smile [:)])

I wouldn't mind a special issue devoted to readers tips, gallery photos and expanded kit builds. Each issue has about 5-6 builds. Well, how many new kits are released in a year by the manufacturers? They can't even touch 1% of new releases. It would be nice to get some skinny on pe and am parts also.

i hate resin. but you should still review that, and try maybe those two months only review products such as zveda models, older models, pe parts, paints, etc

Since theres alot of complaint coming from real space/scifi, auto, and ship builders not getting coverage I would suggest that FSM expands to 12 months with coverage of those topics during June and August. But im not an ad seller or marketer. Just my humble 2 cents.

The auto guys already have there own mag....Scale Auto (which I subscribe to also) and it's only 6 times a year!!. Oh and Playboy seems to pull off 12 issues a year, and it's only $12.00 a year for a sub!!!Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]Big Smile [:D]

And Scale Auto recently went from 8 issues down to 6, which indicates the delicate balance between ads, cover price, readers, subscriptions, revenue, etc.

over the years FSM has done 4,6,8,9 and the current 10 issues per year.
my guess is that 10 issues is the current 'sweet spot' for FSM, the point where they can
still publish profitably while maintaining or increasing readership.
they have done 10 issues for a long time now.

i would think that they left off two of the prime 'summer' (northern hemisphere) months,
as that is the time when some modelers leave their work benches and go outside for something more than a trip to work or the hobbyshop.
