Group Build Stickeys - Enough Already !!
Posted by rjkplasticmod on Monday, May 31, 2004 11:59 AM
I really think it's time for FSM to set up a separate Forum dedicated to Group Builds. With so many going on and more started all the time it's getting a little frustrating. The Aircraft Forum's first page is nearly 1/2 full with GB Stickeys which means new, non GB Posts, get shoved to page 2 or 3 real quick. It must be even tougher for new members or potential new members to figure out what the Forums are about. Other, competing Forums have dedicated areas for GB's so why not FSM ?

What do the rest of you think?

On the Armour forums we thought we had sorted the sticky mess out and was only going to have 3 or 4 stickys at a time, we unstuck the Sherman, Panther 1.35th and 1.16th Tiger builds and some others i might have forgotten. We made a list and had some dates set for new group build, but there coming from everywhere now and filling up quickly.
It should be three stickys and the rest sink or swim
It might be a good idea for a separate group build forum

I agree about too many stickeys but the GB's should stay with their related topic. Maybe a seperate GB section for each topic is in order. I have a GB going on in the Sci-Fi section that is doing very well and stays at the top of the subject without a stickey. I don't have any intention of asking to have it made a sticky, it's not really necessary. I think someone should just manage the threads and if they slip down, it will be because of lack of interest. I think that would allow fresh threads to be seen as they are posted.

Remove the stickey from the GB. Members can hunt it back down if they want or stick it in their favorites for quick access. If there is no activity then it will be relegated down the list where it belongs.

Otherwise if the admin guys think its necessary or warranted, make a new forum. No room? replace the OT forum with a GB forum. Probobly much more productive.

If there is no room for a new Forum, seems to me the Forum on the FSM Convention that never happened could be archived and deleted. It's certainly a dead thread.

Seems like Administration will make any GB a stickey, even when there are only a relatively few participants. I'm not against GB's, in a couple myself, but they seem to be getting out of control and IMHO are detracting from the rest of the Forums.

I could definetly go for a separate GB forum. The aircraft forum is loaded down, and the armor page is coming to be the same.

Great minds think alike--or are irritated by the same things. Just last Friday Dave and I discussed what to do about the GB sticky build-up (doh! you knew that was coming, didn't you?). I agree that the GBs should stay in the subject-area forums. At the moment, the quickest solution appears to be un-sticking them and letting them float in their forums, but setting up a separate GB forum with locked threads that link to the actual thread in the topic-area forum.

We'll probably implement this plan later in the week or next week, unless something more creative and brilliant comes to one of us.
