upgrade the rank levels???
Posted by M1abramsRules on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 12:16 AM
well, quite a few members are quite a ways past the last rank, so I was curious if anyone else thinks that the rank system should be upgraded to higher numbers??

I say that it should be.

It's all very well when you've got three or four thousand posts to be suggesting moving the goalposts, but there are members out there I'm sure for whom gaining that next star means something, and who might just be getting close to their next only to see it disappear into the distance again. Also, there are many members who enjoy posting in the forums, but who may not be anywhere near as prolific as others, and would therefore never see their rankings increase within a reasonable timescale. Also, the are members who may have only just gained their next star. How would they feel at being "demoted" again suddenly?? Unless there is a new ranking system above the present one, I feel we just have to accept the system as it is and accept that there will one day be a day when those with 5 stars vastly outnumber all the others put together

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

I agree. Then number of people with more than a star or two is a very small minority. Maybe a sixth star or different colored stars after 5000 posts is in order.

It took me forever to get my third star so don't you dare take it away! lol I agree that maybe we should add some more to the top of the list or something. Maybe Dave or Lawrence can work some more of their "captain insomnipost" creativity again.

I don't think the checkpoints for gaining another star should be raised, but maybe there could be additional "ranks" for those prolific posters out there to work toward. Just a thought.

I guess I could put a option in there for "more ranks"

It doesn't really matter to me, I like the stars I have! No room for more, really...different colors might be nice, though. Wink [;)]

Plus, the numbers speak for themselves!Tongue [:P]

I'm not sure about adding more stars. Perhaps a few more colors, but even those will be reached at some point.

Either add more ranks/ start changing star colors every 1 or 2k or so.

I would like to see the ranks stay as they are and either add more ranks, more stars, or more colors or even all of the above in addition to what we have now.

the ranking system works fine. but i do agree with different colors. there should be a definite distinction between a member with say 3000 posts and one with 5000 posts. i would be at a loss as to what colors the stars should be or what level they would change color.

I'm less than 20 from another star. NO!

More colors if anything, maybe bronze silver and gold for 5,000 10,000 and 15,000 respectively.

Don't change the bar for those with fewer than 1k or 2k - just do something creative with the stars for the 3k, 4k, 5k members.
I can recall the anticipation of nearing the 4 stars..........there's a lot of members getting near the mark - we can't pull the rug out from under them.

Cheers, LeeTree

The way some guys have posted so fast means to me that the future ranks need to increase at every 10,000, with 10,000 being the next. After that 20,000, 30,000 etc. Each might get a new color.

Oh I definitely agree.

We won't change the current levels.

I tend to agree with the color change.
It may just be me but, it seems that the ranking was set up roughly along military lines so you can't really go adding more stars.
Maybe at 5,000 posts, change from red to bronze, 10,000 posts to silver, 20,000 posts to gold. After that is up to y'all!

I'd say just add more ranks. And with those benchmarks set up top, I'd say the admins are pretty safe for a while. Only a bare few members are around the 5000 post mark. Imagine how long it'd take to get 10000 or even 50000?
Even if you spam, that's still a pretty crazy number. If someone gets that high, it really shows a very deep level of commitment to this site, and they'd deserve more than just an icon next to their name.

Well I don't agree with the changing of the system. It would be rather unfair. I agree that we should just get creative with the higher ranks to set distinctions.

This is actually an easy problem to solve, Someone made notice of the similarities to the military. Lets borrow something from a foriegn power here (not to sure which one as I'm not into militaria) Put a bar under a star at 7500, at 10000 put a bar under the second one, etc etc. This way there is a distinction to the post AND you wont have to change anything. As far as the titles go, I'm sure someone in admin is creative enough to comew up with something.

I'd like to think that you guys are participating on the site for more than just stars...
It's one thing to post and communicate with everyone, but to do it for the post count it becomes mechanical rather than communicative. Which explains the forum games in OT. I was wondering how folks were posting so much and a quick peek in there explains it all.

Why not do away with the stars and just communicate. Seems I know most of you from your participation and the information exchanged, not how many stars you have next to your name.

That said....can I have kill stickers instead of stars?????????? Wink [;)]
