Is there a policy on Aircraft models with pin-up art ?
Posted by rjkplasticmod on Monday, June 28, 2004 12:19 PM
This may have been covered in other posts, but I couldn't find any reference. Many military aircraft starting in WWII were embellished with pin-up art ranging from mild to wild. Knowing this is a family oriented site, is there any guidance as to what is acceptable on models when pics are posted ? I know there was a post a while back of the B-24 "Dragon & His Tail " and no one seemed to raise a fuss. Obviously nothing semi-pornographic, like some of the F-105 birds, but what is the line ? I have a build of a T-33 from Nam " Stove Pipe Sue " which has a discreetly posed nude female on the nose, but haven't posted pics of it for fear of violating Forum standards. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks, Rick.

It's best to stick to the rule of thumb we use in the print magazine: Stay away from the nose art with naked women. If we do publish a photo of a model with some racy nose art, we usually angle the subject in such a way that the racy bits aren't overly prominent.

There are so many good, uncontroversial modeling subjects, we can leave the naughty stuff alone.

Hi Lawrence. i was going to wait for some of the group builds to die down a bit then try to resurect the idea i had for a "tail art" group build. would this be an inapropriate g.b. i have a project idea that comes into this catagory. when i do eventually build this model would i be best off e-mailing a pic to one of you guys to "censor" it so to speak, and to let me know if its ok to post it here.
cheers.

I know this is a 'family forum' but if I were in your shoes, Greg, I'd do the following:

1) Build the thing

2) Post pictures

3) Not give a rat's a** if anyone is offended.

Hey Greg, I don't think censoring historic material is the right thing to do. Just remember pictures can be digitally altered to obscure the offending bits.
It's really pretty funny if you think about it. An instrument of war that can drop tons of explosives on human beings and that's ok but the cheesecake art is a no no.
