Wanted: Article on LEDs

It looks like LEDs now come in a huge variety of sizes and colors, making them suitable for lighting models. I would like to see an article from first principles on how to use LEDs to light a model. I would like to see the article explore 1) whether series or parallel is the way to go and why, and 2) how to determine what resistor you need to put in line with the LED to keep from zorching it. This would also be an opportunity to show different ways of connecting wire to the delicate leads of the LEDs, such as crimping, soldering, etc..
Just something to think about....

Does anyone use LEDs in their models? Is there a way of determining what resistors to put in series with them?

Funny you should ask.......As it happens, we've got an article in the works on this very subject; a fellow built a Klingon Bird of Prey and lit it up with LEDs. He explains how to assemble the whole shtick, including getting good connections, and controlling the set-up with a simple circuit board. Of course, the techniques will apply to any model where you want to use LEDs. I'm not the editor for this one, but I think it's lined up for the October or November issue.
