FORUM

I have a suggestion for the forum. I belong to a number of MB's and one feature that seems to missing from yours is the option to "Mark this Forum as Read". I had once asked about this feature, and it was suggested that I subscribe to the section I wanted to keep up with. At this point, this is unreasonable. Getting 20-30 emails a day is just as bad to keep up with, plus I cannot visit the board everyday, so the emails start to pile up.

Please see if this is an option you can turn on...let's face it, even the free boards floating across the net have this option. It should be simple to turn on and would be very useful to everyone, I'm sure.

Many thanks,
Tazman3

I'm suprised that no one, including FineScale's finest haven't even commented on this suggestion. Am I missing something? If this feature already exists, please someone tell me how to use it!

Patiently waiting...

Hello JH~

When you go into a particular topic, if the little folder icon in front of a thread's listing is pink, it means something has changed in that thread since the last time you were logged in. If the icon is yellow, nothing has changed. The most recently active threads come to the top of the listing. So if the thread you're watching is a page or two down and the folder is yellow, nothing has changed.

Same here...it just seems silly to me to have such a great forum, and not just take the time to add the feature to mark it as read. For instance, let's say that your feature works properly, Lawrence. Maybe I have no interest what so ever in Sci-Fi...you've been around modelling enough to know that we are fickle about our interests. Wink [;)] So maybe I would just want to mark that forum read, so that I didn't feel the need to look there. Or maybe you are just watching a couple of threads, well without this "mark as read" feature, you have to read over old messages or miss new ones. My point is that during the time I first posted this message...you guys could have already added the feature. Don't spend too much time explaining "around" and issue, when it takes less tiem just to fix it.

Thanks for listening,
Taz

Guys-- just use the "Active Topics" link which is right under where it says "Welcome (insert your name here)" ....that gives you the active topics in all categories since your last visit. As long as you are logged in, this is a very reliable way of catching up on what's been going on since you were last here...I have never had any anomalies using this method.

Jeeves, I tried this method and promptly got 184 messages to read. This is my point...some of these subjects I have no interest in. I don't want to have to search thru 184 messages to get to 5 of them to read. With the "mark as read" option, I can mark them read without actually reading them, then my searching is easier.

Look, this forum topic is "suggestions and feedback". This is only a suggestion...I know that if the option is there, the majority of your forum members will use it.

I'm done discussing it, the folks at Finescale with either do it, or they won't. It doesn't matter either way, because there are plenty of MB's out there to spend my time on. It is just a shame because I'm not going to spend my time going thru these message so the will "mark themselves"...to do that you have to go into each message. Do you have time to go thru 184 messages? I don't...besides, I'd rather spend that time modelling!Wink [;)]
