The new Great Scale Modeling....
Posted by Jeeves on Friday, January 7, 2005 8:25 PM
In light of all the negative stuff going on here, I just want to give an "attaboy" to the FSM staff-- just picked up my copy at the local RC shop (knew it was good for something) and there is some phenomenal stuff there. I love the Morane Saulnier WWI crate with the spinning prop and locomotive smoke on start-up-- ingenious!! There is some great stuff in there and a lot of it from model shows all over the globe. The superdioramas are amazing!! My only complaint is I read the whole thing and am done Sad [:(]

Gotta get to the bookstore and get one of these, I knew it was coming out soon. Where's my wallet?
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

I received my copy about three days ago and agree that it's once again a very nice compilation of outstanding models. Bob Letterman's super dioramas are simply staggering to look at...even in a magazine. I would love to see them up-close and personal. I was a bit surprised to see the MMSI 2003 show spotlighted in a 2005 magazine because I have seen (and suspect many other modelers have seen) most of these models in other magazines already. Overall, it's a pretty darn good "special issue" with some interesting builds.

I loved the section on the Super Dioramas, really makes me want to try even a simple one.

I was able to obtain my copy at Barnes & Noble yesterday.

Jeeves you are right. Its another great read. The Letterman dioramas were just mind boggling. Thanks to all concerned for the compilation.

Just one correction though for the Porsche 956 on p55 it says the model's decals depict a retail clothing line sponsor, oh no they don't!! Bob Jane T-Marts is an Australia wide chain of tyre shops

This is just a guess, but the retail clothing line sponsor may referred to may be Adidas.

I thought the 2005 GSM was not as good as those of the previous 4-5 years.
I thought too many of the shows/articles were really old news, and some of the other articles/pictures simply weren't well done.
In short, disappointed, but at, what, $6.00 it's not painful.

Finally picked up a copy at the LHS & it's a great issue as usual. Some very inspiring model photography.
